While doing research on brands I feel like I'm in the wrong time. I wish I had a time machine to go back and get $5-$50 pipes that are $50-$300+ now.

I was talking to my better half about going back to live in the 40s, 50s, and 60s. But without all the racism, anti feminist, everyone's a communist, and having your rights trampled on. It'd be a nice time to visit.

Oh I'm not touching this one.

I hear you, but remember inflation. A $5 pipe then might be $50 now.

Yeh, but then we are talking average wages being below $1 an hour. Maybe you should have said that you wanted to go back in time with the money you have saved now.

I was talking to a relative who has over 1000 acres of land that he bought right out of high school. He just didn't understand why more people didn't buy more land earlier in life. He bought the land at less than $40 and acre back in the 60's, and was making about $8 an hour. He was thinking about all of those fast food people making over $8 an hour without taking into consideration that even $16 an hour won't pay rent.

Seriously??? You’re really not going to enjoy Mongolia between 1162 and 1227.

You're assuming a lot here. I can't imagine the horror of being black in Alabama in 1950.

Huh, no!! I wouldn't mind going to Hawaii around the 1700-1800s. Maybe 1900s too. Maybe sail the 7 seas on a whaler or pirate ship!! Ha!!

If I didn't have to wear those silly tights and knee pants, maybe England during the Golden age or renaissance.

Lots of places and times to visit. But not during war. I wouldn't be able to resist putting one through Hitler's head from a mile out. Watch them all scurry around while their great furher brains ooze on the carpet. Or smother the little bastard in his crib.

Yup! Gotta love that World War followed by Korea and then Nam. The Japanese showed up on our shores with their less expensive, smaller cars which didn't do the UAW any particular good nor shareholders in the "Big Three." And, let's not forget polio. Oh, and the birth of the "anti-tobacco" movement. I shouldn't mention the Dodgers and Giants. Boston at least stayed east of the Mississippi. The NHL started to dilute its business, as did basketball and the NFL. Good times for sure.

Selective memory is a grand thing.

So, to make sure I understand, if he is black, and goes back to the 50's, you're saying that he will have more rights and freedoms?
Are you insane? I never said that. I simply stated juhistory with MODERN values doesn’t accomplish anything.

I also clearly stated he would not have dug the rule of Genghis Khan.

I guess a simple answer isn’t simple.

Uhhh, maybe not insane, just not sure what the previous point was, but that's ok. Sometimes I just roll with it. I thought he meant 1950's not like Dark Ages 1150's.

You wouldn't go back for the bad stuff. Like I said, just visit. Have a little fun, buy a couple pipes maybe some comic books.

Most countries are built on heaps of bones and blood, maybe a little genocide just for fun. I figure if you're going to travel in time, you'll do it for a vacation. Have some fun. Leave the politics in your current time.

Don't try to change the world because you may not like the outcome. Just enjoy the good stuff. I watched this movie Hawaii recently and I've been there a couple times. Love it. Would love to live there. If I had a fruit and veggie garden in the back yard. Man stuff can get expensive there. And Wal-Mart is no help. But the booze is cheap.

Anyway, its paradise. I'd never want to leave. And yes the STDs was bad. Sailors brought measles, chicken pox, and even the common cold and lots of islanders died. You can't do away with greed, lust, and murder. Hopefully one day we can find away to just live in peace with each other then the whole planet would be paradise.

For now I'm just trying to enjoy a little what if in paradise and in a little less complex time.

It seems every decade we get a little more cruel. We have to learn to live with unacceptable violence. People are becoming numb to it. They can just pass by while someone's being robbed, beaten, or raped. "Not my business," "I don't want to get involved." At least back then they would stop it. They'd do something, be a witness if necessary.

There's not a decade in our past that isn't touched by some sort of violence or evil. But if you're going to travel in time, like I said you don't do it to change the World, you do it to get away from it.

Some of time travel would be the luck of birth. In every age, some people did well and a much larger group didn't. In the not distant past, in the U.S., you had to have six kids to have three reach adulthood because of childhood diseases.

You might be overlooking the part about how a reasonable wage back then was $100 per week. You wouldn't have to worry about paying the cell phone bill though. Or cable tv. And aside from the local pharmacy, were you going to buy that pipe from a Sears Roebuck Catalog?
