@stokesdale I would hate to think how you describe your close personal friends! You missed out a few things such as sexual deviancy, alcohol abuse and drunkenness along with a general fixation with scatology and its general application/uses as pipe mud!
I actually would describe all of them the same way (jokingly of course) with the exception of one friend who is truly a decent person ;).

Welcome! It is a great site. As with any forum, there are all kinds of folks on board. It can take a little bit to get a feel for the different senses of humor and backgrounds.

Enjoyment of the site is aided greatly by learning who you want to pay attention to AND who you want to ignore. ;)

Many of us just see it as a way to consume tobacco and really don't see it as a hobby whereas some do. As for gentlemanly, maybe, but anyone, anywhere can smoke a pipe.

And some see it as a way to continually post photos of the all tobacco they have to consume.

hi. There are lots of types here. And yeah a little skewed towards the gentlemanly side. I think that's cause it's an activity that takes patience and building skill with the only reward being more enjoyment or pleasure. And I will tell you the one thing about pipes I do know, no one knows a thing about them we all have very educated guesses.

Don't call anyone "sirs" or "sir" or "madam" on here...their heads are big enough already! And you shouldn't feel privileged, just psychopathic. Here are some of the characteristics of a psychopath and people on these threads fill at least 1/2 of these slots at any one time: glibness/superficial charm, grandiose sense of self-worth, need for stimulation/proneness to boredom, pathological lying, conning/manipulation, lack of remorse/guilt, shallow affect, callousness/lack of empathy, parasitic lifestyle, promiscuous sexual behavior, early behavior problems
I tell you I do have a very good amount of empathy and try not to lie too much. Though in an attempt to not be glib, for some of these to fit psychopathic tendencies wouldn't they have to be common behavior with the person not something they exhibit on occasion? And how many other psychiatric conditions tick many of these boxes? And should be diagnosed as a set of behavior not just a list of key traits? Many of those sound like things that happen on occasion with bi-polar people too. Or are you being glib? Also noticed that a lot of people here seem genuinely sweet at times too and genuinely altruistic without any really chance of getting much recognition. Or maybe I've seen a lot of different types of people here. Though to be serious for a moment I am feeling like maybe someone or some two or threes have crossed a line here with you and you're feeling salty. Please don't paint the rest of the people here in with me and a few others of mental unsound.

that sounds a lot like flirtation to me. Kind of a subtle want to get drunk and see what happens kind of invitation. His winky face response says I am not the only one that saw it that way.

Umm, really, you should probably lighten up a little, you take things far too seriously.

Email is a real pain. Before my sainted Mother passed away almost a decade ago I tried to get her into using a lap top and having an email address. When I sat her down with the lap top, I think it might have been a Dell Latitude she asked me where you fed the paper in to type a letter!
