I'm with Vin, If i'm ordering form USA site, then $150 in tobacco. But if it's to spend local, Id go for a pipe.
For some reason, it borhters me that i have so many tins of tobacco. All different, none that are two of the same. And I'd hate to just open them to try them. I have 3 tins open, plus many mnay bulk blends. I just wouden't have the time to smoke $150 worth of tins.

@CanAsianPiper eventually we will have time haha. I think however I have cheap tastes, because I am loving Borkum Riff's Cherry Cavendish... well it may be that I have cheap taste or that I just don't have the availability of better options here at affordable prices. Seriously looking at American sites 9 bucks for a tin of Ashton Winding Road... at the stores locally... 40 bucks!

Yeah, the American prices are crazy cheap! Unfortunataly shipping costs & mothereffin duty taxes still put it out of reach!
Yanks, buy as much as you can now, before your government taxes you like they do in the rest of the world....you know it's coming...

I would feel like a kid on Christmas morning to do either. I would love $150 on Tobacco, but the question is kinda "generic" to a degree in my opinion regarding the pipe. I agree with alot of the responses about tobacco going to be more scarce than pipes. I do want more tobacco than pipes. However, when you add a specific pipe like the da vinci you are looking at, that changes everything to me. When you think about getting a new pipe in general is different than looking at a really nice pipe specifically. I purchased a pipe from a local B&M a few months ago and was having a hard time deciding between 2 of them. The owner simply said choose the one you can't live without. I only have about 12 or 15 assorted pipes. If you get a tin of a certain tobacco today or next week they will be the same. The price may be different, but the same recipe. No matter how slight the difference the pipes I have seen have had unique features with the grain or other small details. Me personally tobacco versus the da vinci pipe specifically, I would would get the da vinci and get a couple tins of tobacco at a time. If I were mikemacrdlnds my response would be different I am sure

Right now tobacco. You could get an amazing array of tobacco. I just had my PAD filled for a little while though.

I think I can speak for most of the 'foreigners' on the board that if this question ever comes up again, we'll probably choose tobacco...then start another thread complaining about prices.

This is a fun thread to read. It has to come down to needs vs. wants. Anyone smoking briar pipes knows you have to rest the pipe or it can get pretty soggy. I found that having at least 7 pipes keeps me smoking at my normal pace and I can still have a clean pipe to do it from as needed. But I also think many folks here go nuts with tobacco orders as seen in the cellar collections many have. I am on a pace where I get a new pipe, wait a few weeks and then order a hundo worth of baccy. This cycle has worked well and I am rewarded each time as I never actually smoke all the tobacco so some is left in sealed tins for storage by the time I am placing my next order.
Currently my stockpile is at 14 tins; sealed and stored. I own at present 2 Giant Nording Freehands, 3 Churchwardens and 2 standard pipes that each cost 50 new that are made in Italy and another in Germany. The churchwardens get smoked often and the giants get used all day on the weekends for sweet aromatics.
I am also employed again which makes things easier for me. When I was unemployed I would always say tobacco cause I can deal with a slurpy soggy pipe given enough napkins from the fast food places!

Tobacco for me but, hell, Brad's reply is classic!
"Ammunition without a weapon is useless, buy the pipe, if funds are low buy a pouch of OTC, that way you can live to fight another day."
Spoken like a true pipe hoarder, Cajun.

Im gonna have to say PIPE! I honestly just dont go through that much tobacco. I would be worried I would spend all that money on baccy and a bunch of it would dry out or never be used. And, I am a creature of habit, so I can smoke the same tobacco for a loonnng time without getting sick of it.

I would go for baccy. I have a couple good pipes for now, I could go for a bunch of tins to celler. The pipe i really want is around $200 so $150 would get me close but im afraid my good looks just wouldnt make up the rest
