Welcome to the forum Jay. Feel free to ask any questions you have. Plenty of members available to answer them. I hope you can find a pipe that you enjoy. On the home page left hand side is a list of the companies that are sponsors to this site. The links provided will open in a separate window.

Welcome to the pipe and forum! Try every kind of tobacco you can. that way you learn what it is that you like. And your tastes will most likekly change overtime. Keep at it and you should have many years of enjoyable puffing. Oh, and if you have any questions, ur at the best place to ask them. Happy puffing man!

It's a great hobby, glad to have you. I'd recommend you pick up some cobs because they smoke great and aren't very fussy. If you're looking for a nice briar pipe I would look for these names:
Savinelli

Peterson

Butz-Choquin

Tsuge

Brigham

Stanwell
This is just my personal speculative opinion, however.

Wow guys thanks thanks so much. This site is really awesome. I actually was watching a couple auctions on Ebay last night and saw this Estate Savinelli Alligator pipe that really caught my eye. Ended up only paying 61 bucks so I'm pretty happy. I can't wait to smoke it. I will check out those other sites for buying estates as well. As for tobacco I'm going to pick up some of the more popular Dunhill tins to try at first.
