Another vote for cobs...
I've broken several briars working in my woodshop. Even had one slip out of my shirt pocket and land in a five gallon bucket water based poly. Doh!

Cobs all day long here. And maybe a basket pipe if cobs aren't an option for any reason. Specifically, my little MM Eaton. Great little nose warmer. Easy to clench, quick smokes, and pretty decent for back to back smokes.

What do you think cake and rim buildup are, or what colors meerschaum? Pipe smoking is no less a health issue than any other tobacco use. Smoking a pipe poses risk for throat, mouth and nasal disease.
of course but I spoke with a doctor- the inhalation make the situation tenfold worse
if you smoke 10 bowls a day its probably still less of a risk than inhaling 2-3 cigarettes
If you smoke cigs - quit - i'm not the smoking police but if you smokes pipes already - why not? whats to lose?

my falcon. It's my if I lose it or it gets damaged I don't really care pipe. I love that pipe but it's kind of ugly and lacking in charm. Also I get two breaks I can smoke at during work one is 30 minutes the other 45 and so after eating I don't have too much time to smoke so the smaller bowl of falcon is great for the 45 and the Tsuge metal blowfish is great for less. Now that pipe is a tough little bastard. I tend to dump the ash by smacking the metal against things I would never ever consider smacking any other pipe against (use my palm for my other pipes if I can't scrape everything out.

which is clearly backed up by the data. And even if both cigs and pipes ended up being equally deadly, the fact is health isn't just about longevity but vitality as well. And inhaling smoke regularly will sap your vitality much faster then having smoke in your mouth.

Never owned a Falcon. Looked at several, thought about it a few times, but never pulled the trigger.
they are not bad. Worth getting one. But they aren't game changing or anything like that. They're in the category of work horse pipes in they're cheap they work well so if you didn't already have another pipe that fits into that group I'd be more pushy about it.
