Let us know what you think.
Bulleit Rye is good, you could do a lot worse as an intro. In fact it's my daily nightcap, when I can keep it in stock.
My all-time favorite rye is Catoctin Creek, Roundstone Rye. I just checked their website, and apparently it is now available in the UK. It might be more than you want to spend just to see if you like rye, but if you do take a fancy to the stuff, I would certainly recommend giving it a try.

Woodford is a delicious sipping bourbon, and definitely a step up from Jim Beam and Bulleit. Woodford also goes great with a pipe or cigar. If you really want to splurge on a top shelf bourbon, I would recommend Blantans. It is amazing!

My go-to bourbon at bars (and quite a value from the store) is Jim Beam Black. It's aged an extra 4 years and the flavor compares favorably to other mid tier bourbons.
Many top shelf bourbons are very good, but in the past 6-8 years the market has become saturated. My one classic standby on the top shelf that is regularly available is Bookers. Another harder to find but seriously impressive Kentucky whiskey is George Stagg. It's bottled by Buffalo Trace (which I've never liked), and is their crowning achievement.

Just my 2 bits, from an ol kentucky boy.

Adding one vote for Woodford Reserve - try the double oaked straight, especially if you are getting started with America’s spirit.
Bullit, Woodinville double barrel, and Jack Daniel’s single barrel are definitely worth a try before you start going down tthe road to blissful damnation via small batch stuff (Booker’s, Blanton’s, Little Book, Pappy, ...)
And then there’s the ryes, port finished, ... and you come back to Old No. 7 because charcoal filtered sounds good.
