So I was in the countryside on vacation and watching TV and a show came up on making clay pipes and some of them where even fired in a bonfire. Clay is the only type of pipe I haven't tried and seeing that there were potters nearby, it wasn't too hard to secure some clay and for free too. After a few days modeling then I fired them in a fire... Made 7, and 4 broke, so I was left with 3... Not bad for a first shot. I learned later the church wardens were too wet, so they broke, needed more drying time. Would have liked to have one of those.
I put the pipes on the edge of the fire until they heated up and then surrounded them in coals and they fired up well, the survivors anyhow.
