I figure there must be few shops around the area that have a reasonable selection, but finding them is nearly impossible.

@Simon: We may have just passed you folks in Canada as far as nicotine is concerned.
Just found this on the web. Apparently, even fake cigarettes are a public hazard.

Yes, Washington state has enacted some very tough laws regarding the sale and

use of tobacco. It's a felony to ship tobacco to a private residence. It's a

crime to smoke in your vehicle if minor are in it with you. Public smoking has

been restricted to 'clubs' and private residences, despite efforts of the Seattle

Pipe club to stop or modify these laws. Currently, the Feds are considering graphic

warning labels on tobacco products and are requiring blenders and manufacturers to

make product content information available or face having to recall their products.

Flavorings such as menthol and addictive enhancing chemicals are in the target for

prohibition by the FDA. The motivation for this expansion of government control

is being touted as 'for the public's protection.'

I'm damn glad I live in the tobacco capitol of the world. No. Carolina isn't near to giving up their revenue from tobacco just yet.

See Chuck, that's just it...
Washington has such a fine revenue as it is from all tobacco products they are not willing to let it go away. Therefore, NOONE is allowed to ship tobacco products into the state without paying the taxes to the state every single step of the way. Ergo no online ordering.

I spent some time in Mt Vernon a few years back. That was enough to convince me I like it better here in the Midwest.

I'm a bit confused as to how the state has the right to make that regulation on interstate travel --- one of the whole points of a federal government was to be in charge of this bollocks.
Of course the point is the bloody taxes, which is perhaps even more insulting than the pretense.
I'm still looking forward to moving back to Colorado once uni is over with (on the side-note of moving).

The current situation in Washington state is a sad one for me. I spent

a quarter of a century in the Pacific Northwest and have memories of smokey

coffee houses, musty old bookstores infused with the room note of NightCap,

grand old B&Ms and a lot of Pipe smokers around the University. Times have

changed and much has been lost....

I most definitely agree with you Fred. I've been here for JUST about 30 years myself and while you were probably here a few years ago. I, have seen some of these changes.

Its all about the money. If it is sent by mail from out of state, Wa does not get their tax. Government now is all about the revenue. Freedom is way, way down on the list of priorities, and smoker freedom ain't even on the list.
