If you notice in the drawing the shank is threaded. There is no threaded aluminum fitting in the shank.... The Tru-Grains are not as common as the Deluxe etc.You got a nice one!
Thanks a lot for that bit of info - very interesting!
Well done Six! What did you use to polish?
Thanks-I polished the bowl using micromesh, very fine, then just applied some carnauba wax. The shine really popped in the sunlight when I took the pic - the bowl isn't quite as dramatic in person - but it does look very nice anyway.
very nice.... 'cept the stinger.
I will tell you - the singer on his one didn't have any ill effect at all. Not a single gurgle - smoked very dry. However, it did burn hot. Not sure if it was my technique or if the pipe is over smoked. Will have to wait to see on that.

I thought I'd add, one thing I love about a pipe this old is to think of what it's seen. Back in the day people could smoke in theatres. Someone may have been smoking this pipe during a first run of some great old classics like "It's a Wonderful Life", etc.
Probably someone was smoking this pipe watching "I Love Lucy" on CBS. For a person like me, that loves the 40s and 50s, it's kinda neat to think about that.

Beautiful catch, Six.
Terrific grain, a classic shape and well seasoned sixty plus year old briar.
That's a killer combo.

Thanks guys again - much appreciated.
I'm thinking it's more about getting used to smoking this new (for you) Dr. Grabow. I'd wager you'll come around to the pipe
Thanks roth - I hope you're right!

Nice restore job on that one six. It is a handsome pipe and dovetails right into your collection. Thanks for sharing. I agree with brian64: "they just don't make 'em like they used to."

Thanks guys - I am super thrilled with this one I have to say!
I agree with brian64: "they just don't make 'em like they used to."
So true - this older Grabow is as well made as any pipe I own.

I recently acquired a Tru Grain...I'm hopeful there's still plenty of wood in the chamber...the stem has some dents and the pipe has some age on it. ha ha

Here's one shot,

With a little elbow grease, that should be a gem Mike! Is it a Linkman's era Grabow?

The symbol on the stem made me think it was a Linkman's. I have a patent era zulu with the same mark.
