I was fly fishing in BC throwing large streamers and there was a strong wind coming off my right shoulder (I’m right handed) and I spotted a fish about 50 feet away. Instead of throwing it back handed or off my left shoulder I thought I could duck in time for the fly to miss me. Instead I buried the hook just under my right shoulder blade. We tried every method we could think of to get it out but couldn’t make any progress and had to go to a clinic that was about an hour away. Turns out I had bent the hook so that it looked like a letter “G” and the only way to remove it was to cut it out.
My Canadian family loves their socialized medicine but I can say from experience that as a foreigner it wasn’t cheap to remove that damn fly
