On the rare occasion I can smoke in the house during the winter. But the majority of my smoking is done in the car during my commute, or outdoors during a chinook. One of the great advantages of living just east of the mountains!

I think I might need to take up bingo at the casino on the native reserve. They let you smoke inside and I. think bingo eats your money slower than slots.

The cold is not a problem here in the Pacific Northwest. The rain and wind can be though.

I prefer to sit in the cockpit of the boat and have a smoke with my morning coffee. If the weather gets really damp I might sit in the car or just miss a day or two.

I smoke much less in the winter.

I have a wooden shed in the yard, but no garage. I use a space heater and the shed is big enough for me and a buddy to enjoy a pipe. It is rough after going through the summer months of being able to smoke any time, so I've taken to smoking in my bedroom with an air purifier going and the window open. I have hardwood flooring in my room so the smell doesn't seem to linger. Unfortunately the basement is taken up by my Mother-in-Law so there's no man cave for me!

i smoke in doors except when i'm at my Ol' lady's place then i aint usually got time to ponder a bowl if ya know what i mean. my shop has a woodstove in it for when i have bikes in getting worked on so if i am out there its nice an cozy, but usually i enjoy a nice walk during the winter i find outside a parka wit ha hood that extends past your face about 6-8" is ideal as while your smoking it creates a little mini eco-system around the pipe keeping it relatively warm enough to limit cracking. if yoru goign to do any great amoutn fo outdoors in sub zero temps stoc kup on corn cob's

@loseth Does your apartment complex have garages? I've lived in apartments with attached garages and detached garages - great place to put a space heater and light up.
Also when I've previously lived in an apartment even though it says "no smoking" in the lease - I never considered pipe smoking (aromatics) really the same smoking as they put in the lease, so I smoked my pipe in my apartment. I likened it to lighting incense - which women do all the time. Just some food for thought.

Its a half hour drive to work every morning and a 45 min one home in the traffic and I tend to enjoy a bowl each trip, or heading to sites. At home smoking in the house is a no-no so I have a couple of smaller bowled pipes for such times. I smoke both pipe and cigarettes but I'm finding more and more the desire for my pipe then I am a cigarette. Next year I'll have a garage and a dedicated Man-Cave to enjoy my "hobbies" away from the wife.

I'm currently sat in my garage, smoking. I'm renting a house, and am not allowed to puff away inside.

Usually I just set up in the garage with the side door open. But I plan on taking some ATV rides this winter to a spot I found not far from the house, with a hot thermos of tea and some fire starters. Good old pit stop.

Scratch everything I said above and replace it with, "I drive to brdavidson's house and try not to get caught breaking into his shed."

I give up smoking a lot of the time during the winter, I generally only smoke in my car while I'm driving as long as I am not wearing any synthetics or nice dress clothing. If the urge strikes, I sometimes go out and smoke on the patio, last year it was insulated with some plastic which helped a good deal (10 degrees warmer, no wind).

I tend to smoke much less in the summer due to that being when my cycling team participates in many of our charity events. In the winter I use my garage and I have a very similar set up to Papipeguy; where I can put my space heater, my tail-gating chair and set up all of my amenities on my work bench. If I shut the garage door it can get surprisingly warm with the small space heater. I just started using this idea earlier this calendar year and it works great for me. A little tea with some brandy or Maker's Mark never hurts either ;)

I feel for you guys that get the harsh winters. That's gotta be rough at times.
Living in the Pacific Northwest actually has advantages sometimes as it doesn't get to cold most of the time. Where I'm at in SW Washington we don't get to much snow either, so the winter's aren't to bad other than really wet. Before I moved to my current house I would smoke the occasional cigar in my carport and just bundle up and point a portable heater at myself. Now that my current house has a large shop I have the luxury of having a heated man-cave. Its very nice to not have to bundle up anymore and get the heater out because at times it did feel like a chore to just have a cigar.

I smoke my pipes more in the winter and this week I got a new heater for the garage so I will be out there even more. Also if its just to cold I can smoke in the house with no guff from the missus.

I really feel for you guys who are forced to smoke outside. It's one of the challenges to the pipe hobby that has probably done the most to decrease the popularity of the pipe. I've always looked at pipe smoking as an indoor pursuit: no uncomfortable temperatures, no wind to mess up the smoke, etc. But I salute your steadfastness!

No smoking in the house.
Dog walks are good times for a smoke, but when it gets really cold, there are other options, like the garage. It's a nice spot, and it's heated to 55 or so in the winter. There's a burn barrel out at the wood splitting area, and a little shelter next to it for the splitter. Makes for a nice evening to sit and tend the barrel with some cognac and a pipe. We also have an old Subaru wagon that still runs but isn't registered or insured. I'll start 'er up, lay the seat back a bit, crack the moon roof, fire up a pipe and all is good with the world.

Winter definitely cuts back my smoking. I try to get in once a day, but that doesn't always happen. I move my area into my garage/workshop and like papipeguy, get to look at an MGB or Triumph motorcycle. My garage is insulated, I have a comfortable chair, footstool, small heater and WiFi. But, I still feel like a prisoner by the time winter in Maryland ends.
My biggest issue is when I travel, which is several times per week. Smoking outside of a hotel room, in the elements once December hits just isn't fun and I typically don't even bring a pipe along. Occasionally, I'll stay near a shop and relish using the lounge of an East-Coast shop for an hour or so.

Unfortunately these ones that I live in do not have garages, just a balcony. Good point about the incense, it has crossed my mind, maybe I should pursue it. I'm not sure what my roommate would think about that, doesn't hurt to ask.

Wow! Let's see. High nic tabac in small bowls. Handwarmer pockets on a heavy coat. Fingerless gloves. The attic. In front of the draft on the furnace pipe in the basement. A pipe with a windcap. On the downwind side of a tree.In a snowcave. In an ice fishing house. In a parked car. In the chicken house. Lots of hot liquids. 100 proof schnapps. Get your blood moving first. In a tent.

I'm hoping for something better this year. My favorite is fish house. The easiest is a nice warm car. Good luck!
