Can anyone recommend wines that might go well with English blends?
I've tried drinking fruity cocktails while smoking, and that was an unmitigated disaster...

Old red Burgundy goes with everything. :D
You might enjoy something tannic. I think that's why a lot of people drink black coffee or iced tea with their pipes. In that case, you might try petite syrah, tempranillo, or cabernet sauvignon, if you like red wine. White wines generally have much lower tannin levels, but you can find some with good acidity that might create a similar result. Chablis would be my first try....

Try an aged port wine......... I like Taylor Fladgate and it should do very well with an English.
......and it is one of the best wines to enjoy with chocolate or a fine cigar. Port is regarded as one of the most civilised and sociable of wines which will help to make any occasion special, whether a quiet evening by the fireside, an informal gathering of friends or a sophisticated formal meal.

You probably want something fairly bold to counter the stout smokiness of the latakia; possibly a Barossa Valley Shiraz, a Cabernet, or a good Bordeaux? My favorite drink with English blends is Four Roses Single Barrel. It's actually strong enough to compliment the full bodied nature of an English blend. Good luck!

Expanding from wines a bit, brandies hold up well (and even complement) a strong English blend. Armagnac or calvados might fit the bill.

No babe, as much as I like wine, I can't recommend a single one! Whisky on the other hand, takes an English blend up to an eleven!( spinal tap eleven I mean).

I don't like wine. It's icky and gross. English blends are dull and it's always raining in England. I wanna go, but it's too far. I hate long plane rides. My back hurts. It's too warm outside for it to be February. My feet hurt.
That's enough whine to get you by.

Pffff... wine, now that's a tough one. Dry red wines I suppose, pinot franc, merlot, cabernet savignon, shiraz, so many grape varieties. On the other hand if it's a really good wine, I would rather not mix it with tobacco.
