Lovely selection! I used to do it when I was in my twenties. We would get wines for the dinner menu my French friend and I would come up with and invite 4 - 5 girls. He's parents had French restaurant, and they were from Normandy. I've cooking since 3. Specialties are Korean, Italian, and Cajun. But none of the chicks stayed. They had designed driver making sure no one slept over. It wasn't the lack of trying!

Everyone contributes.

We’re lucky to have a good venue - a restaurant with good food and service with a private room that allows BYO.

Most of the attendees have been interested in wine for decades and have deep cellars.

But more importantly, would have bought wine decades ago before current interest from the East (Japan, HK, Singapore and China) drove up prices exponentially.

When I started work in the mid-70s,
a bottle of Grange or Hill of Grace was @AUD$20.
No way will I buy at their current prices of >AUD$1000 per bottle

Love these post. Some great bottles there. I especially love Montrachet. What was the menu?
Oysters, marinated salmon, scallops, octopus with squid ink rice, fish, wagyu beef, salad, crispy Brussels sprouts, cheese platter and Portuguese custard tarts
And a couple of other dishes I’ve forgotten 🙄

The Chassagne-Montrachet was very moreish 😋

All of the wine tastings that I go to around here, I end up surrounded by vegans driving Audis and Volvos. I usually have a good time, but they aren't the folks that I envision eating a meal with.

Great wine selections!! and, it sounds like it was a lot of fun. Maybe I need to go to Oz to find the fun wine folks. We are in tornado season here, so maybe I will catch you in the Emerald City. puffy
