I'm not surprised to hear that about the Ashton. That is too lovely not to repost here.

I use wind caps when the top is down on the Jeep. Only problem with em I have had is that they don't fit the bigger bore pipes I like to smoke.

I bought a windcap like 6 months ago and haven't used it yet... I think I might when I get home from work!

Paul: Are there better designs than the one I have (spring loaded, squeeze and remove). I've only seen that one, carried by Boswells. I'll be hitting Wingenroth's Friday afternoon, and will see what he has on hand.

I have one of those springy jobs in the truck but rarely use it instead I just smoke my pipe with my 2 fingers covering the top I also have tampers but tend to use my fingers for tamping.

I just tried a wind cap the other day and it was just the spring-fit type you have. It really made a difference and worked a lot better than putting my hand over the bowl. I will be bringing it next time I go to the Caribbean, so I can enjoy a night time smoke on the beach.

Every time I travel with a pipe (which is almost every time I leave my room), I bring a spring-loaded windcap, though I very rarely have one on my pipe while smoking it. Rather, I put it on my pipe when I am going to put it in my pocket, to discourage tobacco or ash from falling out. The downside to this is that a windcap does not fit very well on plateau briar or on a curved rim, making it more likely to slip off while in a pocket.
