It occurred to me today that Medico pipe filters are, in fact, manufactured by Sutliff. With Sutliff closing up shop next month does that mean Medico filters will be no more? Or has STG or any other company provided any indication that they might take over production of Medico's 6mm paper filters?

Thankfully there will still be Dr. Grabow 6mm paper filters if the Medico ones go the way of the West, but I know quite a few pipe smokers prefer the more open draw of Medico filters so it would be a real shame to lose them!

Manufactured or distributed by Sutliff? It is a very different manufacturing process compared to tobacco. I have no idea at any rate. Maybe time to start cellaring (hoarding?) pipe filters. You could be on the cutting edge of something here.

Manufactured by Sutliff. From what I understand Sutliff bought the Medico filter manufacturing machine from Frank Co. and have been producing them at their Richmond, Virginia facility.

I've wondered that myself. I usually buy some pipe filters as a courtesy purchase at smoke shops if they don't have any OTC blends I wants, usually I get the Grabow ones but most recently I got some Medico ones and saw the Sutliff logo

I haven't heard anything about it. If STG isn't interested in manufacturing them anymore, it seems like it could be a good fit for a company like BJ Long, or some pipe accessory related company. I use the Dr. Grabow filters for some of my pipes, but it's good to have another alternative option available.

I've been wondering the same. I also prefer them to Grabow filters and other options for 6 mm pipes. I think Sutliff handling them was a recent thing; they had the pipe offer directly from SM Frank on the back of the box through 2022, then it changed to the Sutliff logo.

medico and grabow filters are easily replaced by using a real filter..

or jus twisting up a piece of pipe cleaner and jamming it in.
