Evening, friends!
Here I sit with my first bowl of the famous Wilke 515.
When I received the bag in the mail, it smelled like a nail salon that doubles as a speakeasy overnight. I’ve tried many rum blends before, but this one actually smelled like popping the cork to a bottle and taking a deep breath. The alcohol is so strong that it causes me to gulp when smelling it, like that feeling you get right after you down a shot and your body is trying to tell you that it doesn’t recognize alcohol as friendly!
I was eager to see how this translated as smoke, and so with great interest I packed a bowl and lit up.
The taste and room note is wonderful! The only problem is, the alcohol vapor is still choking me up, even though I’m not inhaling.
I’d never guess this based off of the reviews I’ve read…so my question is this:
Did I happen to receive a particularly potent pouch of this stuff, or does this description match other smokers’ experiences with this blend?
I’m not ready to give up on it, as it really is very enjoyable flavor and room-note speaking, and it also burns effortlessly and cool…but the alcohol vapor effect is causing a lot of interruptions for me and so perhaps if this is standard for this blend, it might just be something that doesn’t work for me.
