Weather being what it is here (colder than a well digger's ass!) my fave english and straight va's aren't welcome indoors. I've been playing with aromatics and found a couple the wife likes but I'm only lukewarm with. She likes Cbw, says it smells like baking cookies.I liked it at first but I'm starting to pick up a chemical taste towards the bottom of the bowl. I'm also smoking on a champagne blend from tinderbox. It seems to be identical to one I smoked on from Rich's in Portland over 12 years ago. Any suggestions on a good peacekeeping blend that will keep my hobby going until the weather improves?

I get good results with the Missus when I smoke McClelland's Mellow Mack, or Eric Stokkebye's 4th Generation 1957. They are very tasty as well.

Try the MacClelland's Frog Morton Cellar. I find it to be a very good light English with (or so I'm told) a decent room note.
My wife has complmented the Frog.
Get a Lampe Berger!

Stokkebye seems easy to get around here, bulk mostly but I could probably scrape up a tin on the next trip to the big town. And rotschefeller, well played! I walked right into that one!

I'll look for some frog cellar, I've not tried any of the frog blends yet. And I am so glad I didnt marry a shoe hoarder! Mostly the issue is that we are living in our rv as we travel constantly for work, its the smoking in confined space that gets her eyes watering!

I like

CAO Eileen's Dream (generally requires some significant drying time but tasty for an Aro, and it does have a pleasing room note, slightly chocolatey with a whiskey undertone and similar flavors)
trout stream (A cavendish blend with a room note and flavor both reminiscent of a vanilla or caramel, as a rule this has not required much if any drying time for me)
Lane Limited 1q(again this has a pleasing room note similar to vanilla or possibly sugar cookies. it is a lighter flavor than the other two and is still a good tasting cavendish blend)
Captain Black Gold(this is one of the first OTCs I have found that I actually enjoy the smoke, it is somewhere between 1q and trout stream, but with a slightly "darker" flavor, again the room note has that caramel or vanilla scent)
and finally

Petersons Irish oak(a lovely blend with just enough perique to lend it a super mild english flavor. This one has a smooth room note that is not easy to identify but I've never gotten a complaint from it
The links I've provided are all to the P&C pages and do provide some reviews of the noted tobaccos. You may want to sit down and go through some reviews with her at some point in order to find something that the room note description sounds good to her

Check out Pipeworks and Wilke. Many of the blends date back to the 1800s when the shop was in NYC (now moved to Vermont). Their rumcake was designed originally for Basil Rathbone. My favorites are:
Wilke 191

I've said it once and i'll say it again, they are a cut above. http://www.vtpipes.com/tobacco.html

When Mrs Sothron grows weary of my tangier VaPers, I treat her to the room note of Gatlinburlier's Mountain Mall Mix or Savinelli Cavendish. Both are room note champs and not bad smokes for aros. I would also add Mac Baren Vanilla Cream Flake to that list.

+1 Anything Boswells. I have 4 of their blends and they're all wonderful. Berry Cobbler is my fav and the "RV Note" is amazing. ;)

I am going to throw in Jack Lee Blend's Honey Malt. One of my absolute favorite Aros, great taste, great room note.

You have some wonderful suggestions already given. I seldom talk directly about my C&D Captain Bob's Blend in the forum. I do not receive any compensation for the sale of my blend because that is the way I want it to be. However, the late Craig Tarler chose to go public with it and it has become an international seller. It is a very unique blend in that it does contain Latakia in a 1/16th ratio enjoyed by the smoker and undedectible by the ladies. It is a light English Aromatic. I can smoke it and my wife loves it. She hates Latakia and does not detect it in the aroma. Yet, I enjoy it every day. There is a topic all about my blend in this Forum if you care to read about it as well as a couple dozen reviews of it on tobaccoreviews.com. If you want more direction, just send me a Personal Message and I will respond.
