Packaging is correct for some of the ET blends in the late 90's, have no idea when they stopped using those trays. Seemed to co-exist with the bags for a period of time. I only saw Peacehaven and Penzance that I can firmly recall, but Stonehaven might have come in those trays.

An Update on my auction. It completed, the buyer paid promptly and I shipped the tin. A few days later, I rec'd an email from Ebay that they had removed the item with this statement:

- We have credited all associated fees except for the final value fee for your listing(s).
Your listing included tobacco, which is not permitted on eBay, regardless of collectability or age of the product. We appreciate that you chose to utilize our site, but we must ask that you please not relist any tobacco or tobacco products. Collectible tobacco containers or packaging may still be listed on eBay, but only if they do not contain any actual tobacco, and the images in your listing clearly show this.
The buyer can't leave me feedback, but Ebay didn't have any issues immediately deducting their fee from my Paypal account.
I guess that I won't be listing any more tins...

Show a picture of an empty tin. I guess I am a little confused, did they credit back your fees or some of them? You did end up with your money less some part of their juice?

So they took a fee and said don't list any more tobacco? Sounds like they are letting the sale happen then.

@ssjones, if you don't mind sharing, what was the final winning bid? Did Ebay claw back the entire amount or just the fees? Thanks.

It ended at $80 (plus $3 shipping).

Typically, Ebay sends you a sellers bill at the end of each month, then you pay or it auto-deducts. This time, they deleted the ad and removed the sellers fee, which I think was about $4.

I have no complaint on the sellers fee.

I thought it was funny that they don't want those tobacco items sold, but have no problem collecting their fee for ones that slip through.

I was fortunate that they didn't catch it until the auction had completed.

Btw, that was the first time I've ever done an auction, my few items sold per year on Ebay are always BIN.

@ssjones Thanks for the information.I'm really glad your sale went through. I wasn't aware that Penzance was bringing $40 an ounce these days. Amazing.

I had another curious action with Ebay last year, selling a tin of Sobranie to a buyer in China. The sale went through, buyer paid, I shipped to China using the "Global Shipping". I rec'd a notification from Ebay that the product had been seized in Customs (after the Global folks sent it out of the US). I called Ebay and asked what happens next. They told me that the buyer had been refunded their payment and the product held by Customs. I asked about my payment, they said that I keep the payment. Sure enough, the funds were untouched. That had me scratching my head.

eBay took responsibility, which is as it should be. The sale took place on their premises and they provided all services, including delivery.

Paid and shipped. Offered him a second tray but never heard back.
It was a Buy It Now, he pulled the trigger at 2am local time, that may have been an impulse buy...

Interesting. Throwing the "8oz" in front seems to throw off the "All Categories" search results as well, if all you type in is "Esoterica Penzance" for your search.

I've never seen the clear package Esoterica before.

My tobacconist claims this stuff is all hype. He also said he could never sell it prior to recent hype. It just sat on the shelf. I am inclined to believe him, though I'd buy a tin if I ever see it for a normal price.
