Why This Meerschaum Is so Heavy?

I'm trying to understand why a meerschaum pipe that I'm interested in buying is so heavy.

Does anyone know if it's a block meerschaum or pressed meerschaum? If it's a block meerschaum, then why is it so heavy? 4.6oz is on average twice as heavy as similar sized meerschaum pipes.

I'm thinking that it's a simple typographical error. P&C is very good at answering messages from your account area. Just ask them about it.

I'd contact the seller. It is a massive pipe, but the weight does seem wrong. Perhaps a clerical error.

I got a reply from P&C:

the weight appears to be correct! (A lot of meerschaum used in the bowl proper).

So, does this mean it's not a block Meerschaum?

It is out of stock so there is no way for them to check it.

I wouldn't worry about the weight, it's not a clencher-type of pipe anyway. I doubt an artisan would put this much effort into a pressed meerschaum block -- but I'm no expert.

It really depends on how big the pipe is. I have a Coast Guard meerschaum that is quite heavy. It's not a clincher but it smokes great.

That's not so heavy my Frog Meer is 185 grams .Its just a big pipe.

Hey everyone, I just got the pipe today (Yes, it's out of stock because I got the last one ). The dimensions of the pipe listed is accurate, but I have no idea why this pipe is considered a large Meerschaum pipe. The bowl is size of an egg, or a gulf ball. I don't have a scale to measure the weight, but I have a hard to believing that it's 4.6 oz. The bowl is only slightly larger than my Peterson Ebony System Pipe #317, which P&C says weighs 1.2 oz. When I hold the two in my hand, #317 feels heavier.
I'm loving the pipe, though. It's just fantastic.
