I don't think less known pipe brands are due to customer recalcitrance. I think it is a matter of volume, distribution and marketing. I'm not a business consultant, but I play one in my head. The brands we know well are mostly the brands that work hard at making that happen. A particular brand many not target the U.S. market that hard. I like my two Luciano a lot, a billiard and an author, but I don't hear much about them, and I have a few other brands that are obscure.

Is Luciano still making pipes? They had a couple of shapes I really like, and in fact, I almost pulled the trigger on one before the opportunity for the new Moretti popped up. Probably not a great sign if I have to ask. Either way, I loved their little canted pots.

I heard that Luciano had gone out of business, but I've run into sites that offer an array of them. I can't remember the retailers, but I've seen them this year. I admire that they actually stamped their pipes with the year of manufacture, factual and up front. Much of the pipe business is shrouded in clouds. My best answer is, new Luciano pipes are still being sold, but whether they are still being made is obscure.

Nah, no problems. I only ordered a single pipe. It actually arrived today, which is unbelievable considering the auction closed Sunday. And it came from Italy. Like, the shipping from Smoking Pipes or P&C with UPS takes 7-9 days to get to me, though that is usually free so I can't complain. 2 business days from Italy for $18 is pretty sweet.

I'll post a picture or two later, but so far, I am thrilled with it. Kind of obscene how nice the thing is for what I paid for it.

I bet you'll love it. I won one in an auction and the day it arrived called Marco and ordered two more skipping ebay. Two morta's and one briar all excellent smokers with terrific fit and finish far exceeding the price.

Dang. I was reading up on Luciano when looking at the estate pipes, and it seemed like they were so excited about the state of things as recently as a few years ago. The young man behind them seemed super enthusiastic and they were being sold at reasonable prices on Smoking Pipes and elsewhere. JI remember your endorsement of the pipes a few years ago as well. I guess pipes and tobacco are tough fields.

Here's the pipe. I like it a lot, and considering the price I paid, I thin it's an excellent value..

I have four Moretti's now and they all smoke great and are in the regular rotation. For those of you that like Marco's offerings of large chunks of briar. McCranies Pipes has a huge freehand on their ebay store for a steal. Too big for my taste but a beautiful pipe.

I have several Billiards and Churchwardens that I really like. Hard to beat for the price and I love the fact that a pipe cleaner passes easily through them.
