I have a few straight pipes that are great smokers and cause me little to no hassle. However, I have around a half-dozen pipes that I've decided to give up on today despite loving their look simply because they clog too damn easily and realized everyone is a straight. Don't have near this problem with bent pipes. I get tired to their constant de-clogging.

I've done a complete 180. From the beginning I've loved bents but this year after 32 years I find myself preferring straights. They just clench easier.
Do you clean your pipes after every use?
I like both. I love the simplicity of straights, but enjoy the easy clenching for bents. My jaw must not be as strong as @Chasing Embers

It's the lack of teeth. Bents hang too far but straights just hang at a slight angle. I don't even use much bite force. I can even dangle them with my mouth open.

Absolutely. The pipes I'm griping about will clog after 1 bowl to the point where I have to resort to hot water bowl soaks and shank brushes to open them up again. I always want to smoke multiple bowls at a sitting, so this is more than an inconvenience.
Simple job unclogging with a pipe cleaner
No fiddling or manoeuvring the cleaner, which is sometimes necessary with bents
I use 2 cleaners immediately after each bowl.
Rarely have to resort to anything else
PS I rarely smoke 2 bowls back to back with the one pipe

What pipes are these, if you don’t mind me asking?
A variety of makers, none high grade. Since I use the same tobaccos in both straight and bent pipes and, of course, pack it the same, seems to come down to the pipe design.
I usually stack a few aquarium size carbon pellets in the bottom of my pipe and it prevents blockages.
The pellets also clean all the ash and dottle out with a single tap on the heel.

Bummer. I’ve never had this problem with any of my factory or hand made straight pipes. I’ll also smoke up to 5 bowls a day out of the same pipe as well.
Examine with a strong light to see if the shank needs unclogging
Tar and other unmentionables may be the problem
I've had to resort to unclogging a few of my pipes (usually estates) with small drill bits/jewellers screwdrivers.
Huge difference afterwards
If that's not the problem, consider having the airways widened a tad

I wouldn't go there. Water flushing is a very hot topic. Almost like waterboarding a house fly to teach them not to come in.
Only place for the moisture to run is either back in the chamber or up the stem?
maybe we just notice it more, whereas in bents the stuff can settle in low spots, or designed reservoirs. I’ve always like the army mounts that kinda act like a Peterson system.
I don’t know though, I’ve heard some say straight pipes dont condense the moisture as much as bents, especially full bents? so much of this is still voodoo to me lol
