Ron Perlman has a similar quote about cigars. As somebody who loves both I definitely find pipes more meditative

I could never take anyone seriously using that quote without knowing it came from a Tarzan book, then he really lost me calling pipe smokers the neophyte word, "piper". I can appreciate the sentiment however as we each have our reasons for using pipes for tobacco. Mine is just for hands free tobacco enjoyment while on the go while others take a more romanticized literary approach.

Smoking a pipe gives me an aesthetic pleasure. And it's great for relaxing after a hard day's work. For me it's like listening to classical music, reading a book.
And the article is really great.
