this could be an interesting thread....instead of a review, try to describe the taste /sensations/ qualities of a blend and why you like it...

I will illustrate...

Middleton's Cherry Blend...

  1. There is a tartness that makes me salivate....a good thing when smoking leaf that could potentially dry you out.
  2. The flavor is light, sometimes boring, but in the right briar is a good burley based blend
  3. The light touch of anise (same flavoring as in Half/half, Sutliff's Field Stream match, Mixture 79), etc. is a nice touch.
  4. The room note is legendary.
  5. It's readily available .
  6. It does not get bitter at the end of the bowl....I believe an indication of light nicotine.
  7. There is a pouch note fruit essence in addition to the light anise....that is pleasing...not sure if it's cherry per se.

Chime in!!!

I like Seattle Pipe Club's Potlatch because it has six or seven tobaccos brought together in a highly effective way that both harmonizes and highlights individual leaf, giving robust flavor that is never overbearing, and that is both surprising and consistent over a number of bowls. It's always a pleasure to have it arrive in rotation and always good to look forward to it. It burns well and does not require many relights, and the tin note has promise that it fulfills.

I like And So To Bed because it tastes like the world's best English blend topped with the world's best Fruit Stripe gum! I also like Pembroke because it tastes like nearly the same blend topped with the world's best booze. Pretty subjective, but hey, it's an "I like __ because __" thread! Kinda thought you were joking when I saw Middleton's Cherry, but to each their own!!! How does it compare to Prince Albert Cherry?

Thanks to plain packaging the range of choice here in Oz is grim. I smoked the same 3 very average blends for around 7 years.
When I discovered on-line tobacconists a new world of blends opened up to me.

Since then I've enjoyed blends like PS Luxury Navy Flake, Butternut Burley, RLP-6 & Newminster #17 English Luxus, just to name a few. Nothing fancy, just decent enjoyable blends.

Smokers outside of Oz are spoilt for choice. It amuses me when I read how some think it's the end of the world when a favourite blend has been discontinued or hard to get.

I'm grateful to have what many of you might consider to be average blends & a limited range of choice.
That's why I like any honest tasty blend that's not high in Vit N & I enjoy every single bowl.

It's just a matter of perspective I guess.

Were I to win lotto, I'd be coming over to the U.S. & tour the country in an RV. My first stop would be the Iwan Ries shop that many of you rave about. That would be like Heaven.
So if you ever see a tall blonde guy driving an RV with an Aussie flag in the back window, puffing on a pipe with a grin from ear to ear, you'll know that it's me : )

I like C&D Big n Burley because it has a good amount of strength.
I like it because it burns clean and pure. There is a touch of Latakia in it that only occasionally peeks out and makes it interesting from time to time.
I like that even whenI pack it too loose or tight on occasion it still gives me the same great taste.
I like that it comes in bulk.
I like the spice that it has from the Perique, it’s just right to me.
The orientals are nice and sorta musty too but not too much.
I like that some age on this blend makes it sing.

Why I Like Stokkebye PS23 B & B....
if I want a sweet smoke this one really shines...
It's just burley and super tasting black cavendish....very nice vanilla black cavendish.
I can smoke it anytime and it pleases.
There is no chemical taste
The flavor stays consistent through the bowl.
Its readily available in bulk, and value priced.
If too moist, you can dehydrate it some and still maintain the flavor.
It's light on the nicotine and bitterness near end of the bowl.

I like C & D Bayou Morning because it tastes great.......and it's less filling. It also delivers an ample amount of nicotine. It burns easy, is not fussy, has a nice pleasant sweetness and a goodly portion of perique. I like to exhale the smoke through my nose and feel that familiar and welcome tingle from the perique. It doesn't care what pipe you smoke it in. No, it isn't refined. It doesn't have a long and storied pedigree, but it is quality and let's you know your smoking some darn good tobacco. It's not expensive and can be obtained easily. Even when bone dry after being left in my tobacco pouch, it still tastes great. To me, it's the codger version of VaPers. Just sit back, light up and enjoy. Come to think of it, I'm going to have a bowl of it now.

I like DLNRs/Solani 633 because:
  1. they are very sweet yet have enough body to keep me interested
I like SG Balkan Flake because:
  1. it is smoky, smooth, reasonably heavy yet quite sweet at the same time
