This is fairly normal. My anecdotal advice would be to try to tamp it down as much as you can or you will end up like me. I'm 3 years in and have already sold off probably 70 pipes from my collection, most of which I bought in haste in the first 6 months.

I found later on that once I realized what I liked in pipes (after buying countless savs and petes) I would rather spend more money less often on higher quality pipes.

Thanks for the banter here guys. I do have tendency to collect stuff. Collected coins since I was a kid and then Case XX knives and built up a large gun collection. O/U shotguns for clay shooting and a bunch of smith & wesson revolvers and a lot of Berettas. I even had the original Bond gun from the 50s unfired and several WW2 Berettas. I sold almost all that stuff. Most of it sat unused and collected dust. Only have a few pocket knives and sentimental coins left and a handful of guns now. It is an addiction for me - collecting that is - and when I sold most my stuff it actually felt good and I really have no regrets especially considering I made $ on everything LOL. Now I feel the pull again wrt pipes and tobacco - LOL. I resist it as I do not NEED more and I tend to feel a twinge of guilt when I buy stuff for myself but I have always lived well within my means so I really shouldn't. I have not carried any debt except a mortgage for the past 30 years. Worked my ass off in my career. Mostly bought used cars (currently drive a 2007 accord) and I paid for my kids college (started saving monthly since they were 2). Anyway, I really do find pipes artful and I will likely buy more but I think I will try to shoot for 7 really special ones for a rotation and then call it quits but one never knows ;)

I quit selling out of my collection. Every time I sold something I later regretted it. I sold a Colt python. Sorry about that. Couple of really nice knives. I’ll just keep it all. Let my kids worry about it. Been spending about fifty dollars a month for forty years on pipes. Lost track how many I have.
