I just tried my first cube cut, the local B&M has one called Baker Rd. Seems to be a Burley forward, Virginia and light Cavendish mix. Not sure if there is a topping or if I am confusing the Cavendish. But it is a nice smoke and one that burned nice and cool too the bottom of the bowl with little moisture and no bite but for my heavy puffing at first fire.
That said, why no English cube cuts? Or VaPers? Or....? Pipestud reviewed a no longer produced cube cut Balkan and it was given high marks. Is it difficult production issues? Or do folks simply not like the cut?

I'd say it's a limited market and you can cube cut yourself so it makes better sense to leave the cut to the customer... or not :)

No, I suppose you are correct. And some flakes crumble if you look at them too long. This cube cut is a consistent size and a nice easy gravity fill. Nice changeup, pleasant surprise. I was looking for a house version of Coyote but even The English at this store seem to have a gopping.

I'm a big fan of cube cut blends, though I agree, they are in short supply.
My sort of home brew go-to is C&D Cube Cut, some Black Cavendish and Perique and a bit of Burley ribbon. I toss everything except the cube cut into a blender to make it more similar in size to the cube cut, then mix it all together.
If you want to use a cube cut as a base and are willing to do a little work, you can get pretty close to having your own cube cut/granulated blend of anything.

Some people are big fans of cube cutting stuff themselves, me, I have never liked it. Either rub it out or smoke it whole flake.

Curious as to how those small bladed food blenders work to cube cut tobacco. I've really enjoyed the cube cut blends (C&D Crooner & Cube Cut)lately and would like to cube cut a lot of the blends I smoke.

Toob, what stuff are folks a fan of cube cutting? Are there particular flakes? Which ones did you try to cube but not like? I am looking for some insight to why there are No English blends found cube cut. I guess you do not really find English blends in flakes either... Which could be cubed. My 3 bowls today of this cubed cut blend has led me to believe that it might suit other blends well too. A shame that it is not more prevalent as a cut but then again maybe other blends do not like to be cubed cut and burn differently. Hence, the reason for the question. Glad you like rubbing stuff out. I hear it can be pleasurable.

I often cube cut FVF. I rub out a small amount of flake and throw that in first. Then I layer the cubes in. Then finally I top it off with a little more rubbed out flake.

I've heard of one or two people doing that. I've never tried it, I use mine to grind coffee, but I suppose it might work well if you don't overload the machine. But I would not consider that a cube cut anyway. Just shredding.
aquadoc, I haven't kept track. Before I learned to fold and stuff flakes a way that worked well, I tried cube cutting and never liked the result. Affected the burn, tasted less good and smoked hotter. But some people swear by cube cutting lots of flakes in advance and having it all ready. I almost never prep tobacco in advance. Like coffee and black pepper, I think that once prepped, tobacco should be smoked.
English blends? I have NEVER seen a single one cube cut! Just would not smoke the same.

@Aquadoc-One of the traditional cuts for burley is a cube cut. Some of the match blends have cube cut in them. Some of these blends are of the American English style. Blends like Blue Boar and Barking Dog. When you mentioned cube cut I went to the popular on line sellers and searched and found more then I anticipated at first.

You know, that's a great question.
Cube cuts are awfully convenient.
It might be the next big trend! and it happened right here.
That's why you should log in everyday, folks.

Yes but but when you cube cut your flakes, then they are no longer flakes! They are cubes.
