I bought an HCA just out of curiosity and because it came with two stems just in case. I really don't care for the church warden stem it smokes just fine with that stem and looks cool; it's just not for me with the shorter stem it goes from a nice pipe to a really good pipe.

Some time ago, I made this rack to hold 9 of my churchwardens in a small area. Most of the larger ones were bought used, (or "estate") and I put longer stems on them.

Just today I got a used oom paul that's now in the basement full of kosher salt and 90% Everclear waiting for it's new long stem. Maybe I'll post a pick of that tomorrow...

I love mine. All 5. I am a LotR scholar and don't mind admitting that. I smoke mine during DnD sessions or sitting on the stoop of my shop. I don't walk and smoke much, because I would fall over or blow on the pipe as my coordination timing rhythm was destroyed. I stopped driving with pipes because it were stinkin up my truck. When I did smoke in there, then longer standard pipes were the ticket. Briarworks Princes are almost a demi-churchwarden.

Here's the Oom Paul I mentioned in post #48... I hardly needed another pipe, but my favorite pipes are bent, and I'd long wanted to try an Oom Paul.
This thing arrived last Saturday. After thinning out the cake, a blast of kosher salt & Everclear. I couldn't find a long stem to fit the tenon & outside of the stummel, so I cobbled the new stem into the stub of the old one. A little sawing, sanding, polishing, and drilling, and a touch of Locktite, and my new pipe awaits some Autumn Evening. Hopefully, it'll get warm enough to make an outside smoke feasible...

The ebay pic, and the "new life" pic...
