I actually started laughing out loud when I read about Beavis & Butthead and Wood's youtube clip. You never know when a thread can go off the rails and take on another wacky life. Kinda fun when it does:) We have some true talent on here in that regard.

Canned or Banned Weekly Column
All of the threads about these storied members got me thinking that those of either above persuasion ought be given space to talk about the real reasons why they were flushed, which we, the enquiring remainder, never get to know, thus this recent flurry of posts about Starcat and Haja. And in the interval between canning and banning they have probably reflected on their respective injustices, and thus quite likely have even more noteworthy things to to say.
I think it usual that by examining the negative along with the more well-known positive that pipesmagazine could attain better balance.
Similar to the husband fighting with his wife who, as he goes out the door on his way to work, does so with even more well-chosen words, increases the drama of his exit, so to might the banned have a vehicle for their exits, should the column be approved.

Got a bit of a taste for controversy, doncha? I have to confess to a streak of morbid curiosity myself.

If you own the soapbox, you get to decide who can stand on it.
So go buy yourself a soapbox and see how that works for you.

I don't believe Starcat was banned. Starcat just stopped posting after the thread happened. As I was given to understand, Starcat was mortified by what had happened, having done nothing in particular to provoke it, and simply left the forum.
Starcat was the unfortunate victim of circumstances. Shortly before the thread happened there had occurred a major forum meltdown (the one that led to political discussion being banned) with a number of members quitting or being pushed out the airlock. The forum was dead, dead, dead, for weeks. I believe that the Starcat thread acted as a release mechanism for whatever angst still permeated the membership.

Is this what led to the now defunct mypipeclub forum?

Where several members here left and have now returned?

Starcat, whether a he, a she....or an actual pretentious wizard cat from Aldebaran, was fun. And by fun, I mean like tripping on what you thought were magic mushrooms (really, they came off a pizza man) and talking like you're James Joyce after your first few classes of Philosophy freshman year.
And there was something about artifice too......weird.

If you're talking about the way ol' JJ expressed himself in his letters to Nora, hell, I've been talking smutty like that for years. No philosophy classes required!
