Thread is pretty self explanatory I guess. However since most of my smoking is done while I’m doing something else - studying, gardening, pushing a pram, you get the drift - it’s not something I’ve ever really thought about.

I'm almost always on my feet when smoking and I'm a klutz. Closing my eyes would have consequences.
Just glad I paid American price for the CAO Cameroon I just smoked, would be pissed if I paid 40 odd bucks for that..
I have to admit I've smoked with my eyes open, my eyes closed and have fallen asleep with my pipe clenched in my mouth too.
The first one is obvious.
The second I often listen to music while smoking. So if I'm in my "good chair" playing whatever (My tastes range from 1920s jazz to modern head banger music) on my device of choice I'm known to close my eyes to pay attention to music while smoking. Pipe + tunes = good times.
I've also maintained a pipe in a clench whilst asleep though so far only once. I was at a relative's place and I fell asleep shortly after thanksgiving dinner while having my after dinner smoke.

I only have a pipe when I sit down and relax, and I don't close my eyes because I like to see the smoke wafting around, and look lovingly at my pipe. ?

No, I can't say that I have. The reason I have sat down to enjoy the pipe is because I want to watch the ballgame or some such,

Maximum relaxation for me is sitting in a reclined lawnchair with a Churchwarden resting on my belly, eyes closed and puffing away without looking.

Yeah, sometimes it happens - or rather I make it happen- briefly, occasionally and I've never started a bowl with the intention of sitting and doing long blinks.

On the topic: I smoke eyes open. I like to watch the smoke and surroundings. And I often smoke in public so eyes closed would look even more weird.

No, I don't smoke with my eyes closed. I may on occasion close my eyes for a moment trying to focus on what I'm tasting, like figuring out if the blend really has any Perique in it, or burley. If I want to take a nap, I do that, but not while smoking a pipe.

Smoke rings? I round my mouth and gently push the smoke out with my tongue. The tongue is what maks the hole in the ring as the smoke flows out around it. Eezy, peezy. The less breeze or ambient air flow in the roomj the better and longer lasting the ring.
