Let me regale you with an incident that happened this week: There's this young kid, 25 (I later looked him up on the net) who did some minor handy work around the house, but he had a problem--he never showed up when he was supposed to. He simply became undependable, and his excuses were pathetic, like, "I have to take my girlfriend to work--I have to go to the gym". Finally, when we hired someone to cut our grass, he called and said he was coming over to do the same thing. When I tried--I never got through the sentence--to tell him we got someone else to handle our lawn, he screamed at me, "Eat my s**t! You can go f**k yourself!" , then hung up.
I looked at the phone amazed. I am not accustomed to be spoken to in such a manner or screamed at, even when I was a teacher. But what astounded me is the ease at which this child used such expressions to a man deserving, I think, of some respect. It was clear this kid had not concept of mutual respect or gentlemanly behavior. I was unnerved enough by this rant that I called the police to find out if this kid was a criminal and checked the net for info. All it would reveal was his age, and his picture on Facebook: A picture of him without his shirt, showing off his muscles and body, as if to attract someone for sex, like certain politicians of recent note.
I relate this because later I would read in the forum about another senseless act of kindness,

, by one of our brothers like the above. This settled me and reassured me that decency and goodness are still in the world. The acts of such gentlemen and ladies extend far beyond gift-giving, and I thought this should be expressed.
Oh, and the kid--I'd bet my bottom dollar he doesn't smoke a pipe. Not, in any case, a pipe for tobacco.
