For myself, I would like to throw Walt Cannoy into the ring. Although I do not own one of his or any of the above aforementioned, but I hope to rectify that here this year. I really enjoy his shapes and openness to others especially newb pipe maker's. Last but not least, the suede blast is awesome hand not seen it duplicated by anybody else.

Clark Layton is simply a great carver and a absolute pleasure to work with. I have two Layton pipes and another on the way. I love his work and both of mine smoke like a dream!

I don't have a lot of experience with lots of carvers, but I have an Alden and have ordered another. I probably will continue to go to him for future orders as the pipe I have is so very nice, stem work, blast, and smokeability. And I know that he wants to make pipes for the regular joe and keep his price points reasonable and yet worth his time. I messaged one of the more expensive artisans about a commission and never heard back from him. I won't name names, but I do notice that he hasn't been mentioned in this thread so far. I hope to have my new Alden soon and will of course post pics when it arrives.

Klein makes a sweet pipe but I wouldn't put him in this group - ie. quality artisan pipes in the $250-$400 range.

I, too, would check out Walt Cannoy's work. I've not had the pleasure of smoking a Cannoy pipe, but I've heard nothing but good things about the pipes, and from what I've seen, his workmanship is very precise.

What if the next Rad Davis is also the next Jonathan Davis? And what if that person is politically the next Jefferson Davis who happens to be the next Sammy Davis? What then?

I am glad you like the Alden. I now regret giving him a good review. Don't like competing against you for pipes.

peck, I know your expenditures for escorts takes a chunk of your dough, but you still find a way to compete.
Your girlfriend is certainly pricey, but she says the olive oil is working much better than the bacon grease.

Maybe he is not the next Rad Davis, but you definitely need to check out this Argentinean artisan. His name is Ezequiel Herreria.

The guy makes an awesome pipe, has the right attitude and his pricing is tough to beat for the pipe he makes. And his blasts are VERY nice.
I'm meeting him on Monday for two new commissions.
I know Sablebrush got one of his pipes off ebay and really likes it.
Cheers,
J
