Just a hypothetical question. Does that mean it tastes like a chicken? I mean, I wouldn't eat it, being possibly a native religious symbol and all. But one has to wonder.

Buffalo is a nice, lean and tasty meat. They keep pretty much to grass diets so, a grassy taste and a bit more "body" to the meat, like any wild game. If the calf keeps to a reservation or park it might not end up in someone's wall is a couple of years. Or table. Bison are raised and hunted in Alaska. A controlled hunt with only the old, sick or lame being targeted. Gotta cook those old guys long time.

I knew a commercial buffalo rancher when I lived near the Montana / North Dakota border years ago.

Sure enough tasty, and the animals were largely immune to the trials and tribulations of cattle. Much healthier, less prone to infections and diseases of all kinds, more self-sufficient, and they shrug off -40 F temps without drama.

The catch? The they need a lot of space, and the entire area must be fully contained by buffalo-proof electric fence. Handling them at roundup time is also a bit more exciting.

I suspect they will make every attempt to preserve a religious symbol ... or at least I would hope they would.

It looks like a dirty white buffalo to me but what do I know. If makes the Indians happy I'm happy, I remember eating some ranch raised beefalo and it was mighty tasty eating.

White Buffalo Calf Woman taught the Lakota to pray and smoke bowl pipe ?? Interesting history . Does anyone have more information on this ?

This is a classic Native legend about how the Native people got the tobacco plant as a gift. There are different versions of this story depending on the tribe. It's kind of a cool story, and tobacco is sometimes counted as one of the four main sacred Native plants.

Wow that article really undersold the heavier side of the prophecy. If you're the type that believes in omens look up what the tribal leaders are saying about it. Certainly isn't the yea things just got good the original article presented. If you just think it's neat or whatever then don't bother digging into it a little more.
