I just got my first pipe, a Savinelli 320. When I puff it with nothing in it, it whistles. Is this normal or should i send it back? I removed the stem and that's the part that whistles. The whistle is a lot louder with the filter inside.

There is still a slight whistling noise. Is that normal? When I hit the corn cob it's silent except for the wind. The 320 is louder than that.

(Only Lawrence, I think, will truly "get" this post.)
There may be a burr hanging around somewhere in the stem. If so, hopefully a stiff pipe cleaner can dislodge it;

or you can remove it with a small file or Xacto blade. Strictly speaking, up with it you shouldn't have to put.

I put 2 pipe cleaners through the stem at the same time and it's still whistling. Should I send it back?

I'm worried that i'm just paranoid because this is my first real pipe and don't know what to expect. But the corn cob is a lot quieter. When you inhale through an empty pipe could you hear each inhale? I would hate to send it back to find out that that's normal

Son, I don"t want to make your life any more complicated , but you don"t smoke an empty pipe, load that Boger red up, pack tighter than you normally pack and tell us what happens.

If you are concerned that it will not smoke right and there is any chance you need to return I would not smoke it, a reputable dealer will take it back, just wondering how you would tell them it whistles if you haven"t smoked it , catch 22. Call or e-mail them about your concern, let them take the ball and see what flushes out.

The same problem was addressed there and it turned out to be his best smoke and other people with a 320 said when they dry hit it they heard the same thing so i'll smoke it tonight and let you know how I make out.

I have one. It whistles when it's empty. (Just tried it.) I've never noticed it doing it while smoking it, but I've only smoked it three times.
Let us know how you come out.

I've been smoking for about 20 minutes and wow what a crazy difference from a corn cob. There is barely a noise when I hit it. If I didn't get all paranoid I probably wouldn't even notice. Thanks for the help/advice

I'd seen the 320s online but I had no idea how solid they really were until my wife got me one. I tend to be a clencher but I do really like this shape. It fits good in my hand. Some pipes are finger pipes....the 320 is a hand pipe. It just snugs itself I there nicely like a dog that wants its head patted.
