I was doing something similar when I start several years ago and probably should have kept up with it... At least the date/price of the pipes. But, never thought that PAD was a thing, oh well bit late now
Yes, for me it is difficult. Sometimes a Cobbler, other times a General, once a Carolina Gent, back to the Cobbler, then a General, again a General, then I look, and hell, again a General. It's like groundhog day film..............

It would probably help me if I knew what a cobbler, General, or a Gent was. Are those Petersons?
I was referring to Charles twone Cobbler, Carolina Gent, and pipe General corn cob MM. Is that what you were asking? Oh my god, I'm going to have a shot of whiskey.

I never knew MM actually named them, I just assumed that they had hobos out in a field making cobs into pipes and randomly tossing them into recycled milk crates.
When I have the time, I prefer to choose a large bowl poker or MM. Otherwise, it's whatever decides to jump into my mouth. After all, "the wand chooses the wizard..."

Well... ok... but, I can't stay out too late. Mrs Cosmic wants me to fix the fence in the morning, and I have a lot of errands.
Blend first, then one of a few designated blend pipes.
Like a few others, my blend choice will dictate which pipe. If I have multiple pipes for the genre of blend I chose, then it’s usually the pipe that’s closest to me.
Today I'm breaking in my Peterson Sherlock Holmes Junior with PS Navy Flake.
I first decide what tobacco I want to smoke and then I pick which pipe best goes with it. When I buy a pipe I base it on how well it will smoke my favorite blends.
Took the day off. Smoked two bowls of an aromatic yesterday and my taste buds are out of whack. Tomorrow is another day.
My pipes are dedicated to tobacco genres which helps whittle down my choices depending on which blend I feel like smoking.
It used to be a random choice for me also, but recently I applied a "system". One after the other, the cobs, the Falcons, the briars and from the start again...
if I Can't make up my mind. i go with the one that's most neglected. Which means the first meer. Which while a fine pipe. I really just am not anywhere near as fond of it as my briars. Even if it is coloring beautifully. Just not a fan of Styrofoam like weight of it. Smokes wonderfully and missing a tactile joy that I wouldn't even have noticed if I never went without it.
