Which "cheap" pipe in your collection smokes best?

Yep. Good ol' Missouri Meerschaum corn cobs. I don't know that it's possible to find a better smoke for less money.

My favorites are a couple Dr. Grabow Starfires in different shapes, a Vauen Dr. Perl billiard and a Kaywoodie Supergrain Canadian. All reliable carrying pipes. During decent weather I almost always have one of these one me.

@rigmedic1, I like the look of that Viscount. If one ever turns on ebay I'll snap it up!
Interestingly, (to me, at least) adjusted for inflation, $9.95 is around $36.00 in today's money. That's just about what a Dr Grabow would go for these days though it seems to me the quality of the briar was much better then.

I love my artisanal pipes and my Dunhills--they look and smoke great. But I've got any number of basket pipes that I picked up for very little money. Some are GBD seconds, some are charatan seconds, (the name is there, and then stamped over. Sometimes I can spot the defect, other times it's a mystery, but they're great smokers. At this very moment, I'm smoking a panel straight grain that has only the words "straight grain" stamped on the shank, and nothing else. I got it around 1970, don't recall the cost, but it's a mighty fine pipe.

I have a lot of low end pipes and all smoke well after being properly broke in. I've only come across one pipe that I've given up on and that one i don't recall the brand only thst it turned out to be some sort of plastic. Was very nice to look at but a horrible smoke. Understand that im not saying I dont appreciate the workmanship and beauty of a higher priced pipe just that you dint have to spend a lot of money to have an enjoyable experience.

One of my first pipes, a Savinelli Duca Carlo half bent billiard. I bought for just under $40 if I remember correctly. Still one of my favorites to smoke.

All of my Trypis pipes smoke great. They range in price from $20 to $60. Thanks Smokeybear. Also have a couple of Amadeus Akropolis pipes that I got from P&C for around $30 that smoke as good as anything I own.

I have an old Peretti Straight Grain Billiard I picked up off of Ebay a long time ago for 50.00 that is a flake smoking machine. It has a great stem made from Vulcanite that is very comfy. I still have not gotten the Lakeland ghost out of it and have been too lazy to send it off for an Ozium treatment. I really need to do this, someone please slap me up side the head .
