The quarantine and working from home means I can now sneak in a bowl, or 2/3 of a bowl in the morning walking my dog, and this has become part of the morning ritual so it'll stay after quarantine as well. This means that by my consumption calculator the measly 1.5 kg of tobacco I currently have won't even last me for a single year. So I need to stock up on everything...

Double post to expand, time limit on edits.

I understood the need to stock up when I was just smoking Nightcap from 2016-2018, buying a couple of tins per couple of months from Denmark or the UK, when it went away I was seriously bummed. Now neither countries ship abroad so that door is closed.

My issue, and I'm sure this applies to a lot of other new guys, is that I've rarely had a second tin of anything I've tried, and most of my stash is single tins so I don't know yet what to stock up on. So far I've liked most of what I bought, so go deep on them while potentially missing out on things I haven't tried?

It's a mindfck, you shouldn't have fear of missing out if you don't know what you're missing, but as I've developed my tastes a bit since picking up pipe smoking regularly a couple of years ago, and reading here I started getting a feel of what I'll like, so FOMO is working overdrive.

Take C&D for example, I tried a few things from them so far, liked a couple of them very much, and can get them from time to time given I have relatives in the US, but it's very scetchy, so stocking up on C&D is guaranteed to let me down eventually.

Peterson/Dunhill, these are readily available via Germany, as are HU, MacBaren, Solani, DTM, but Germany may stop sending to Greece at some point so I'd be bummed, again.

Gawith, and I really love a lot of Gawith blends, I get from my office in the UK but travel to the UK is also scetchy, especially now with covid (there's none!).

I think the answer is, as @hoosierpipeguy said on one thread some months ago: drop a couple of big orders now not to be left high and dry if/when the doors close. The issue remains though, I'm very hesitant to go big when I don't know what I'm buying, and I haven't smoked enough to know what I'll like.

Or maybe just wait until you know what you really like. It's too easy waste money buying the wrong stuff and a lot of companies are releasing new blends every month just to get in on the panic buying that's happening now--playing up on the idea that if you don't buy RIGHT NOW you'll never get it and you'll miss out forever. It's a bit of a game. The new stuff isn't necessarily better than the old stuff... it's mostly just the same style of existing blends but repackaged and marketed like it's amazing. I don't know about Greece but the FDA regulations in the USA won't kill all the classic blends that have been around a while, only the stuff from the last 15 years. If you want to feel safe, just develop a taste for the blends you can get.

Thank you, I agree with your points but my issue is twofold: lack of good tobacco locally and scetchy, potentially unpredictable shipping changes.
First, there are very few worthwhile pipe tobaccos in Greece: some Davidoff aromatics, a couple of MacBaren/Amphora and a very good local company (Wolfway), most of these smokable stuff are ridiculously expensive (such as $24 for Davidoff flake medallions). The rest is Clan, Captain Black, 7 seas, Borkum Riff and Scandinavic which I couldn't smoke even before I knew how to smoke.
Second, currently I can get tobacco from Germany, but need some workarounds to get English or American tobaccos i.e., send to relatives (US), friends (Switzerland), or my company's HQ (UK), this means I need to constantly ask someone else to ferry my smokes around and while nobody has complained yet I don't want to be doing this not to be a nuisance, but also to be able to buy what I like, when I like. I used to be able to get stuff sent to Greece from the UK and Denmark, but this changed around 2018. Although the US retailers (smokingpipes, 4noggins) do ship to Greece, I know from a friend that shipments usually get held up in customs over here, and are destroyed (or "destroyed"...) so I don't want to chance it.

I'm a late-comer to the cellaring game. I need more of everything, lol. Being in Canada makes it rather difficult ? but I shall prevail!
I understand your pain brother... I live in an area with a bunch of small towns close together, checked out 3 towns. Finnally I had to go to the oldest convienance stores I know, with the ancient asian man that digs under his counter and the only stuff he has are two pouches of amphora very cherry (hate cherry blends) and Colts gold... I didn't even know Colts made pipe tobacco! So I took it...it bites. But I'm currently sitting on 50g of Legends Hudson bay and dont want to smoke it all before all my packages snail their way here.

I plan on making a large purchase next year when I finally move home. My cellar is more wide than deep, but the blends I do like and will for sure get more of.

2lbs of New Minster
2lbs of Sutliff 507-C
3-4 lbs of Briar Fox
1lb of MacBaren Scottish Mixture Bulk
2 boxes of MacBaren Navy Flake
2lbs of MacBaren HH ODF
A few more tubs of PA
