I was heading down to Lake Erie with my brother for some fishing. We had 88.7 (89X) from Windsor on the radio and they were playing Alice In Chain Heaven Beside You. About half way through the song the emergency signal sounded and it was announced. We continued on our way listening on the way down to the lake and while fishing. We were stunned that it was actually happening. When we got home I went to the neighbours to see it on the news. We couldn't believe what we were seeing and hearing. Every time we go down 40 HWY South one if us mentions it.

Fortunately too young to understand nor remember. Though I was certainly old enough to understand what happened during London’s 7/7 bombings, which were no way near the same scale to that of 911. I remember coming home from playing with some friends at the park, putting on the television seeing the then Prime Minister Tony Blair say “It is important however those engaged in terrorism realise; that our determination to defend our values and way of life, is greater, than their determination to cause death and destruction to innocent people, in the desire to impose extremism on the world. Whatever they do, it is our determination that they will never succeed in destroying what we hold dear in this country and other civilised nations across the world.”

Something which I always find noteworthy whilst looking back at these painful moments, is the point of Blair’s speech. That we can never give in, we can never surrender.

I was in Ukraine. Serving as a missionary. My mom called and said we were being bombed I turned on the news which was on a rotating language schedule. German, Russian, and English. I had to wait an hour before I got the English. We went on lockdown not knowing how it would affect us and started waiting for posts from the Embassy.
