I have a nice blasted Jobey Shellmoore that has no filter and was not drawing properly, it was passing a bristle pipe cleaner fine without and discolouration so I got a round hobby needle file and gently filed around the draught hole a bit and widened it slightly. Now it smokes as it should without the sensation of sucking a blocked pipe. I don't smoke filtered pipes and if I get one that has a filter I immediately remove it, sure it may mean extra cleaning but at least I'm smoking from a clear airway (smoke draught hole)

I'm a big fan of the wider airflow. Boswell pipes are priced nice and have a great airflow. Savinelli have a nice draw also. I have learned a small trick of opening all my pipes to 5/32 from the shank to bowl, and that usually does the trick w/o having to mess with the stem at all. And if you like some of the filters 6 or 9mm then just shave alittle of the balsa filter so its not so tight and that makes it smoke wonderful.
