It happens I was on the phone today with my wife's cousin, with my wife on the other extension,

both Missouri born and reared, and the subject of Missouri Meerschaums, a famous Missouri product,

made in Washington, Missouri, came up. So, I asked them, where is Washington, Missouri? They thought maybe

down southwest in the Ozark Mountains. So I jumped off the phone for a few minutes and looked it

up in my Rand McNally. It's due west of St. Louis about 15 miles. No wonder their fine product caught

on, near a transportation hub, where the river boats could take the pipes south and north, and the

railroads could take them east and west. It made the business thrive, and so we have our much loved

cobs today, a tribute to river boats, railroads, and the brilliant simplicity of the corn cob pipe. Washington,

Mo., has a population of about 1,400.

rickpal, please do your own mapquest check on me for directions, but as I see it, you can take

Rt 70 from K.C.over to St. Louis and catch a county road south to Washington, Mo., at the exit

at a little town called Foristell. You might want to check online to get a phone number and

call to see what the hours may be for a tour or when they're open to the public. If you're like

me, you'll have to buy a cob or three, to have actual pipes from the "home church." But please

check on the route; I don't want to be the cause of a goose chase. Also, be sure this is the correct

Washington, Mo. There could be two...not likely but possible. This would be a great post on Forums,

if you have the time.
