I've not heard from Javan (the mod from Azerbaijan) in a very long time and looked into it earlier and found he had not signed in since January!

I queried this with another forum member via PM and he had no idea so I ask, where is Javan?

Regards,

Jay.?

My recollection is that he started his own business and said he would be absent for a period of time. May be wrong.

Accidentally stumbled upon this thread. Sorry for my late response Jay. I recall chatting with you in summer if I am not mistaken. I quit my corporate job last year in August, decided to start my own business. Everything was going well as planned until Coronavirus hit Azerbaijan. At the moment I am a partner and Business Development Manager in a friend's company while also trying to save my own business. You may have heard, there is an ongoing war with Armenia at the moment, so the situation is chaotic here right now.

That is an awful situation to be in. I love that part of the world and I wish the best for you and yours.

EDIT: I was about the sickest I've ever been while in the backcountry of Georgia. Had pneumonia and the hospital power went out while they were trying to get me sorted out. I still have a cough from it 2 years on but the people were the kindest I could have asked for. The hotel owner's son drove me the half hour to the hospital and stayed while I got the help I needed.

Thank you very much for your kind words. People of the Caucasian countries are really hospitable, especially to the foreigners. We have a member here on the forum from Georgia, I even managed to meet and share a smoke with him during one of my visits to Tbilisi. Godspeed recovery on that cough of yours.

Thank you. What will be will be when it comes to it. I guess what I love about the Caucasas is that they remind me of home. Similar type of people and similar climate. Depending on the region, you can grow everything or nothing and the people will literally give you the shirt off their back.

And where it might be? I have always felt South American and Central Asian people were similar to the Caucasians.
Wyoming, USA. We are a sort of isolated folk with not a lot around us. We do have a big Basque and Volga Deutch contingent here.

Agreed that Central Asian peoples are similar in their kindness and general attitude. Haven't had the pleasure of living in South America yet.

I would beg to differ. Yes, we have mountains and such but half the state is desert too. ?

EDIT: And not pretty desert...

I know the grass is always greener on the other side, but I have always felt like the nature is greener in the States than it is in this part of the world. There was even a scientific explanation which simply concluded that it was something related to the Ice Age.

Everytime I hear of the conflict on the news I think about you and wonder if it is affecting you.

Stay safe chum ?

Regards,

Jay.?

Thanks Jay. It has been a conflict for almost 30 years, now it is a real war. Fortunately, I am in Baku with my family and we are safe here, the war zone is far from the capital city.
