Buenos Aires Province.
Scotland plus a few years in England before moving back across the border.

For the last 15 years I've been living in Argentina where my wife is from. The missus loved Scotland but as her mum was getting on a bit we decided to come to live here where we had a house anyway.
It's a fantastic country with great people.....apart from the ruddy politicians that is!!!

When I moved from the Rhur-area (where I was born) to Frankfurt in Hesse in early 70s I first had to learn another German language cause I didn't understand not much when Hessians talked their dialect. That was funny they understood me but not vice versa. But still today I love the sound of my original "language" and I can hear if someone comes from the Rhur-aera even if he talks High German with no accent.

Sorry, a typo. Should be Ruhr (a river) not Rhur.

Interesting. Here in the US, in Pennsylvania, Ohio, and a few other places are descendants of German 17th & 18th century settlers who still speak a form of Palatinate and Hessian. The Hessians are mostly descended from the contract soldiers the British used in the American revolution, who decided to stay in the country, living in NJ and moving into the frontier of Pennsylvania.
About 30% of Pennsylvanias population is of German ancestry. Although as a group they frequently called "Pennsylvania Dutch", they are German, Dutch being a corruption of Deutsche, and does not specifically refer to any religious order.

I miss surfing, but get my yearly fix for 1 week each summer.
Side note not to derail; I have traveled and stayed in a beach house or condo with my wife and her family for almost 30 years. It is a special vacation and plays a significant roll in my family’s life. Surfing with my sons teaching them respect and love for the ocean is pure joy.
