I added this Rattray Marlin a few months ago. Nice pipe but the drilling is way off.

That would have probably been me if I had seen it last night. Love those cutty/belge shaped bowls!

Dave aren't you supposed to be talking me out of it? Hehe
Fitzy...I've attempted to locate paperwork, but I cannot seem to recall any such agreement...fascinating. (Heed the call of the Zulu...)

This shape has really caught my eye lately. I don't have any but need to grab one.
Fitzy, I have a few Mimmo pipes. His mouth pieces are so thin at the bit you might mistake them for vulcanite. Thin and narrow, but the pipes are usually pretty light. I don't think he uses bowl coat, which is a great.
The bugaboo for me is that the airways tend to be very constricted and require opening. For that reason I will not buy a bent Mimmo, although I suppose the bend could be straightened, drilled out, and then rebent. That's further than I want to go for a new pipe. Last point, the pipes seem to take ages to break in which I suspect may be due to the fact the briar is not old.
On the other hand, I'm starting to realize that I prefer to buy pipes that are already broken in with a good thirty year of smoking on them.

I've had 2 bad experiences with Zulu's, my first was with a Rattray Highland Zulu, the stem air flow had been compromised during production. The pathway from stem to bowl was impassable with a pipe cleaner. Bought it from a company whereas, if you smoke'em you own'em, period defective or not! The second was an estate pipe Loewe & Co. 'Woodstock' Sandblasted Zulu (pre-1968) bought from the same company. Another dog, whoever reamed the pipe should go back to reaming 101. There was not much brier on the side walls, a sarcastic understatement. The hottest pipe I ever smoked. Despite those pathetic purchases, $300. shot in the tush, I still like and will buy Eltang, Jared Coles, Layton, Dunhill from smokingpipes, after I shop the world inventory.
I recently discovered Al Pascia in Italy, great value pipes. I've purchased 2 beauties that make most machined pipes look and smoke poorly in comparison. They produce a Zulu in there Rusticated finish that is stunning Al Pascià - Al Pascia' Rusticata - smoking pipe C457 - Pipes - A - https://www.alpascia.com/en/product/44133/al-pascia-rusticata for less then a $100- if this pipe smokes half as well as my last two purchases from Pascia I just may have found the perfect Zulu. I let the Zulu tribe in on the results next week.
