back to the stems one of my fav cobs has a walnut stem so my question is would you need the cob to make a stem or are they standered and it would just be a matter of glueing one in i have some dogwood and persimmon that might make a good stem

Wow you are a true craftsman. Any way you could show a pic of your set up to drill the stem hole. I'm starting the process of learning how to make pipes. Any tips would probably help not just me but lots of the guys. Your work inspires me to create too!

I use my lathe, a Jacobs chuck and a tapered 5/32 long drill bit. The bits can be ordered from McMaster Carr. The pipemakers forum has an excellent sticky on making lucite stems without a lathe.

Got those cobs in the mail today, man I tell ya when you get spoiled with Uncle A stems, those crappy plastic stems they come with....for lack of a better word.....SUCK! :D

Uncle A is the Lizard King, he just waves his hand over the lathe and

materials show up ready for his magic craft'in arts ;-)
