And Edward Munch's The Scream 1893- he went for a walk in the woods and heard Nature scream and painted his reaction to it. (like some threads ...)

"Liverpool from Whapping" by John Atkinson Grimshaw. I saw this at The Philadelphia Museum of Art. As I sat on the bench looking at the painting I was drawn into the scene as I have never been before or since. I I felt time had stopped while I was looking at the painting.

My taste in paintings is at least as sophisticated as my taste in tobacco...which is why my favorite painter is a cartoonist...and I have a framed print of my favorite on the wall in front of me:

I love art but know little about it. Still here are several paintings I love:

Accolade by Leighton. Had this one in a 3x4 frame in my stairwell for years.



Another by Leighton titled Godspeed:



I also love this painting my Mozin where the French captured a Dutch fleet with cavalry when the harbor froze over. Those ship captains must have been SO frustrated. lol




More modern, I have a deep respect for Kincade's early work. Sunrise (This one still hangs in my house)




So does Heading Home:



I also, being in Tennessee, got Christmas in Graceland



But my favorite contemporary guy is probably Steve Hanks. After seeing Coastline I was just amazed at his talent:

Disturbing. The look in Saturn's eyes as he eats his son. I can only imagine what people must have thought 200 years ago when he painted it.

I'm not big on paintings. I just don't get "it" but do enjoy seeing art galleries.

I can draw fairly well, especially with pencil. Most people in my life don't know that.

But I despise painting, itself. It smells, is messy, difficult to clean up afterwards, and I'm just not good at it despite trying (and being forced to try in school).

I was forced to go to Painting with a Twist. It's group painting that allows booze. Here is my favorite painting. I did it sober at Painting with a Twist. The guy working there said "I thought you'd be worse at this." Jackass.
