My favorite clencher is probably the one in my avatar pic. A straight, blasted Bruce Weaver billiard with an acrylic stem. Light as a feather.

I have a limited collection, but among what I have, Rossi Salerno 606 seems to do the trick for me.

I will second MSO's suggestion of Stanwell 32's- they are a pipe that can live in your face all day if you want. My absolute best clencher, though, is Dr. Grabow's take on the Zulu. Mine is from the Grand Duke line, but they have the same shape in other lines as well. In fact, I'm thinking of getting another one, even though I need another pipe like I need a splinter in the eye.

Ref the Nording signatures, some are not heavy at all. Friends gifted me with one of the smaller versions (still with an ample bowl) and it is not heavy, I'd guess 1.5 ounces at most. If you like zulu clenchers, the Sav 404 and Rossi 8404 (sometimes shown as a 404 too) are great. They're about 1.4 ounces. You can get them without the filter feature (if that's what you like) in various series including the Sav Oscar Lucite, the Sav unfinished, and the Rossi Palermo. Again, I like the shape so well, I have both an unfinished version I bought about 35 years ago, now deeply walnut "stained," and a Rossi Palermo, which is a deep dark wine red.

My best clincher is a 1940s (or earlier) BBB Own Make billiard. I'm smoking it now with some Dunhill Nightcap. Perfect...

I'm a clencher, I clench all my pipes.
I'm fond of this Luciano. You can find some really small lightweight ones.

I have this large chubby Dublin that is Ardor second. It is not very long maybe 5in in length and it has a silly large button that sits nicely behind my teeth. It doesn't look like it would clench but it's a dream! I clench most my pipes though and I usually smoke straight pipes. My Canadians are some of my favorite too.

I used to clench long, long ago but it is not good for the pipe and marks it all up as well as promoting TMJ, so for years, I don't clench at all, and rather prefer holding the pipe with one hand as I only smoke when I can devote my full attention to it anyway! Smoking is supposed to be a relaxing event, rather harder to do when your teeth are clenched.
Amen, I've never been able to get into clenching, for me it's for when pipe smoking is no longer a hobby and a habit. If I don't have the time to hold a pipe, I don't have the time to smoke. Plus I find it's gross, you get smoke up your nostrils while you're breathing, drools dripping out of your mouth, and it just can't be good for your teeth. It's the same with me for cigars, I can't have a cigar stuck in my mouth, when you're breathing air it's just nasty getting all of that second hand smoke from the burning, that's the nastiest smoke I find, it's very acrid and burns your eyes, very much like cigarette smoke.

I have a Stanwell Trio 86 that I really liked clenching. I still really like it recently I've been smoking 2 Peterson Premier System (317, 31) that I am enjoying a lot. But I do also hold my pipes a lot too. Feel them, feel the heat. Take the time.
@leacha, great looking cob. Really like it. I am going to look cob making up!

The top three meers are among my favorite clenchers and are the perfect sizes and weights for clenching. I have a couple of Medico Varsity pipes that make great clenchers as well, but the very best clencher I have is a BigBen Barbados egg that hangs about as perfect as a pipe can for me.

In case anyone is still reading this thread, i'd like to say that i can pretty much clinch most of my straight pipes, especially the one's with a saddle bit. If you don't mind tooth chatter, try biting down on the length of the stem and hold the pipe somewhat sideways in your mouth. This does make the smoke go moreso into your cheek but works for me. Even my churchwardens are held this way, although that is stretching my method a bit :) Cheers!

I have a Baraccini poker with a slightly bent stem and fishtail that I bought for about $30 12 years ago that is a delight to clench. I think you can still get them from P&C for $50ish. Good smoker, super lightweight, and easy to set down if I need to.

My suggestions from a year ago stand, and you might also want to look at Iwan Ries and their Ewa pipes, small (Group 2), and economy priced, about $38, but fine little cookers for flake and plug, and nicely made French pipes. Another I'd recommend is the BC Caprice, light weight and highly portable, but sturdy, with a med size bowl.
