Update: I just smoked a bowl of D&R’s Cockstrong in it and it was a pleasant smoke from the beginning to the end. It was more moist than my average pipes, but the harsh taste was gone. In the future, I’m going to wash the pipe with water after each smoke and I’ll be fine with that. Thanks again for all your great advice.

I'm glad that you found a solution to the problem. When I water rinse my pipes I set the water to run at a drizzle, just enough to keep the chamber filled as the water drains from the shank. I avoid hitting the outside finish as much as possible. Then I scrub out the airway and I'm good to go.

Great to avoid harsh treatments of your pipes. Hot water will do no harm used every time, but it sounds a bit like over kill.
Glad you found a solution.

Sometimes, it's just bad luck the way the dimensions of the bowl relate to the diameter and length of the draft hole in both the shank and stem, and the space between tenon and mortise, in such a way that turbulence is produced, which causes moisture to fall out of the smoke.
I own a lot of Andrew Marks pipes, for example, and all but one smoke wonderfully. And the draft holes are almost identical. And even with that one pipe, it's only the first third that gets moist. Then it smokes like normal.

All in all, I think there is a lot mystery going on in what makes a pipe a good or a bad smoker. As you sad, pitchfork, it sometimes is a thing of bad luck. But I am happy now you helped me finding a way to get enjoyment of this pipe.
