I am not "concerned" as much as just surprised. With any product, there is bound to be that one in a million thing. Just so happens...it's usually me. I would not report it to the FDA....they wouldn't care anyways...and as above no need to turn more against tobacco. I do wish I could get in contact with SOMEONE at McClelland just so they know it happened. I don't have anything against them, however it should be brought to their attention. If you want to worry about what you consume...go into the place you get your soda from the fountain, then check the ice box; more than likely it has mold in it and they don't care...pretty gross. Seen it in 4 different fast food restaurants that friends worked at in Orlando.
This type of thing is not uncommon for me. Elementary school...ball of hair (like that that can collect in the corner of a room) in my brownie at school. Middle School - Payday from a save-a-lot that wasn't opened...but when I opened and bit into it...I wasn't looking and was talking....here's the bad part...it was covered in ants and they were crawling in my mouth. Hundreds of ants...payday was black. If I wasn't raised the way I was that would have been a lawsuit. Still can't eat a payday without examining it. Have seen the ice machines (for the fountain drinks) in 4 fast food restaurants...they generally have mold in them and no one there cares...thanks friends for showing me....My father bit into a piece of seemingly cooked chicken from Arby's...it was raw...pink..That one actually made me laugh. THEN by far the worst of them all...my brother bit into a chicken nugget from McDonalds that had a box staple in it...the big ones. This was before lawsuits were common...and he was little..SO this, in the large scale isn't so bad...but still bothering me!
What a rant....warren...lets write a book on the subject.

Regulations on food are fairly slack. Not no rat droppings, but the upper limit for rat dropping, in peanut butter
In milk there's an allowable limit of puss too. Personally I'm trying to find a private source for beef, like farmer direct where there's no inspection, as the inspection is pretty useless and it ups the price a ridiculous amount. I already have a hutterite connection for chickens, eggs, and honey, I'm just trying to find a good beef supplier.

Andy...you make me miss pure honey. Unfortunately I go through that stuff like a Pooh Bear. When I used a pint in a week I knew it had to stop....expensive anyways. This topic has bloomed into a lot more lol.
How would you expect them to react when you tell them about this? Just curious.
Cosmic I missed this earlier. I am extremely manic, so at the moment...I expect a written apology for the stress, restitution in the form of money, and a large sampler, and a blend made specifically for me  No, just wanted them to be aware that stuff has been missed in their process, for their own sake. Even if it is just twine...still, not the first impression the company wants to make.
We dont want to smoke bacon. It should be banned. Anything that causes cancer should be a controlled substance.
The Sun...soon to be put under restrictions, ordinances flowing everywhere about how long you must stay inside and how much sunscreen is required when entering the scary outside world.

Thanks for the number; I do however wish there was an email. Will have to give them a call when I get a chance for quiet.

Now they're selling starter herds. Give this addy a try: www.leanandtenderbeef.com
The beeves are Criollo, so the cuts are smaller. Great tasting beef though and you order by what is available.
Hope this works for you. I recommend them highly.
Damn! they still have my testimonial on the site.

Don't smoke another bowl of that tobacco. It could seriously affect your health. Kindly send it to me and I will dispose of it in a safe and proper manner. 8)

I know, I've been very grateful for all of the responses. The logical twine explanation set me at ease for sure. I am very glad I am part of the community, and appreciate the people/companies who keep the site going!

Just don't be surprised if a frog does jump out of your next tin!

I found this in the tobacco and felt like my bad luck had come around. It looks like hair....it smells like tobacco and when set on fire doesn't smell like burning hair...but it's gross whatever it is
It's twine. We used to use it to tie up all our bales when we farmed baccy. I wouldn't sweat it too much. There's bound to be a little piece of it sneak through quality control from time to time, along with the paper the bales are wrapped in. We always used heavy brown paper to wrap the bales though, so a small piece would probably go completely unnoticed even by the end user. Ever take a puff that tasted a little like paper?
Anyways, I'm sure there's much worse things sneaking into our tobacco from time to time. I wouldn't be too worried about the twine ;)
Probably string used to bale the tobacco for curing.
I don't know about the production of the tobaccos used in Frog Morton's, but the burley and dark fired we grew were finished curing before they ever went into bales. After it was cured it would be stripped and tied, then it would be "boxed", which was the process we used to pack it into bales. The bales were wrapped in paper, and then they were tied up with twine/string just like what he found in his tin :)
Likely a loose piece just found it's way into a bale and QC at the manufacturing level missed it.

Hell of a lot better than finding tobacco beetles/larvae in expensive cigars. Pipe tobacco is cheap in comparison to decent sticks.

Hope they hadn't made it's way into the humidor. Good way to ruin a lot of cigars.

I asked Sailor Jerry & he said it was "hair of the dog chasing the frog." Sorry, but I really laughed out loud when I read some of these comments! After a bad day I needed that pick-me-up. However, Tyler, did you try lighting a match to it on one end? Human hair & hemp have distinctive smells while burning. Might put your mind at ease.

Once I found a huge grasshopper looking insect inside a can of spinach. No kidding. However, I did not even notice it until it was sitting in the bowl on the dining room table right in front of us. It blended in perfectly with the color of the spinach. It was BIG, about 4 inches long. Talk about a food aversion, I have never bought another can of spinach in 40 years.
