Does anyone store their tobacco in the original tins? Is there any problem?
I store the tins as-is only until I open it, then the contents go straight into a mason jar. Word is that an opened round tin should keep your tobacco moist for about a month or so, but I have yet to smoke a full tin in that timeframe as I move among my various blends, so I jar the blend as soon as I open the tin.

Square tins are another story, I've not seen anyone recommend storing tobacco in those once you've opened the tin. Happy to hear other ideas about that, though I have very few square tins in my collection. (Samuel Gawith tins are also notorious for not being well sealed even before the consumer opens them.)

@khiddy Yes, I meant the sealed tins. Once opened it is logical to put the tobacco in a jar if you are not smoking it quickly.
But I understood that many opened the tins specifically to decant the tobacco and store it in jars. Maybe I misunderstood...

To my knowledge, most folks keep sealed tins unopened and as-is until opening to smoke. As I mentioned, though, some tins that are known to be unreliable (as mentioned, Samuel Gawith is specifically called out, I've heard of other manufacturers who don't seal very well either due to inability or by design) and therefore it's important to check the integrity of the tins when you receive them to make that determination.
