I think whoever smokes Blackpool for the licorice will be sorely disappointed. One of Germain's talents is to make blends that don't taste or smell like their constituent parts. It may have licorice in it, but you won't be able to taste it. At least, I can't, and I had a bowl just last night.

For licorice, I recommend Mixture 79.
That’s so weird, because I was overwhelmed with licorice from Blackpool and dumped it. They are small scale, so there may be differences in batches. Proceed forewarned then.

I may be just a -- what's the opposite of super-taster? -- inferior-taster. I need stuff to be in your face for me to enjoy it. Latakia or lakeland sauce, the more the better. Va and VaPers need toppings like Newminster 400 and Medium Flake. I have to have spice and heat in my food too, etc. I'm trying to learn to enjoy the more subtle blends that others enjoy, like FVF & 5100, but I'm not sure I'll get there.

It may be that that I just couldn't taste the licorice in Blackpool the way I can in 79. It certainly could be due to batch variation too!

I'm a big fan of the flavor of black licorice and find it very present in Esoterica's Ramsgate. But because it's so incredibly hard to find, I only enjoy one or two bowls of it every year. I love Irish Flake but don't really detect licorice flavor in it - same for Brown Flake Licorice, ironically. Maybe I just got a very mild batch from the aforementioned KBV. This all being said, I found that Georgetown Tobacco's 1261 house blend has a very enjoyable licorice flavor. I popped into the store when I was in town for a long weekend and picked up a couple of ounces out of curiosity. It wasn't advertised as having a licorice flavor but it seemed very pronounced to me the few times I've enjoyed it.

Have you considered chewing licorice root? Not a tobacco product of course, but immensely satisfying.

I really like the GH brown licorice, but find the flavour is less in the smoke and more in the residue of the after taste. I enjoy it as an evening pipe while chatting. The moreI put the pipe down the more licorice I get

I do love strong Dutch licorice, never tried chewing on the actual root though. Licorice flavored snuss is amazing, but sadly m'lady vetoed that one.

The root is amazing. It has more of the sweetness going on rather than some of the spice. Ive got some wintergreen snuss at the moment which is enjoyable, especially with a glass of tonic. I didn’t realise how much wintergreen was in 79 until trying it as a flavour by itself

Wow, I remember pondering the flavors in Astleys 44 while on vacation in the Gatlinburg area, and really picking up on the heavy licorice casing that they used. I was thinking, "wow, I remember licorice not tasting very good, but this isn't bad." So, at a gift shop picked up a bag of licorice. I couldn't keep it in my mouth for long enough to chew it. It just pulsed like a bad tasting medicine that a doctor was forcing me to eat. I ended up tossing the tin of Astleys out the truck window. And, Dark Strong Kentucky has it too. I had forgotten about those, but they aren't really aromatics, but they definitely have a lot of licorice in the casings.

War Horse Green bud - if you like anise and licorice - it was very pronounced - so much so that I couldn't deal with it anymore - It wasn't bad - leaf was good - flavor tolerable- but monotonous

Some great suggestions here. Peter stokebye Sambuca is a black licorice aro that comes very dry for a aro.

Mixture 79 and War Horse Green fit the bill as well although they seem to be a love/hate type of blends.

Another great one is Match Field & Stream, inexpensive and ready available.
