Cigarette smokers can be a tough sell, even when they want to smoke a pipe, because they are in the
grip of the nails. You don't want anything too strong or too distinct in flavor, lest those put off a particular
smoker. Still, you need a little nic to simulate cigarettes. PA and Carter Hall seem like good suggestions,
or Lanes Burley Without Bite, which would walk a person through buying bulk tobacco and putting it in a
jar. You might suggest a quality Virginia in case the person is one who does not taste or dislikes burley,
like maybe McClellands 5100. You want tobaccos to be simple and unadorned. They can branch out on
their own. Emphasize inhaling isn't part of pipe smoking. I'd even gently steer them away from exhaling
through the nose, since that becomes inhaling just by breathing, really. Pipe smoking is a different activity,
and it won't do a nail smoker any good to make a cigarette experience out of a tobacco pipe. I wish your
friend all the best. They are lucky to have a good guide in you. I'd suggest your friend buy bulk tobacco
in one or two ounce quantity, until they have settled on what they like.
