Arango Balkan Supreme. When I opened that first sample the campfire / BBQ aroma of the Latakia sent me to the internet for that first 5 Lb. order. Glad that it's still around to be enjoyed.

No, she was stating that recipes and processes have not changed. How another person tastes a blend is totally subjective. Facts.
So is the vinegar plague caused by packaging changes? To me there has been a change, not only in presentation of tobacco...ribbon cutting, to a pronounced vinegar smell that permeates the tobacco. If it was your car, you'd take it back.

Which Gawith do you get vinegar from? I know the amount/intensity of casings/toppings has varied but haven’t gotten any vinegar-y vibe.

Never heard anyone say anything about a vinegar 'plague' before. Yes we have changed packaging of flakes and plugs (for the better). No change in cutting of the shags or mixtures. Only that we use traditional methods and very old machines so parts do wear and break. All our machinery has undergone a complete overhaul during the move to the new factory.

"If it was your car, you'd take it back." - and you are of entitled to do the same, if you feel there is an issue with the quality of the tobacco, return it to the retailer you bought it from with your reasons.

The Gawith 'rep' is the Managing Director and part owner and simply points out facts. Don't need to smoke a pipe to run the business.

And that's the issue. You have no frame of reference for the product you shill. To you, it's just marketing and a way to make money off of something your family created. Your facts are what you read.

Congrats on being named Managing Director with no real experience in the field! Nepotism signs another paycheck. You should've stuck with law because you like to belittle people and their opinions (esp when it affects your bottom line)

How would you know anything about the subjectivity of how a blend tastes when you don't smoke a pipe? Marketing 101 at University?

Yay, now we’re trying to piss off one of the oldest, still in the business tobacco producers that choose to stay in business in a very challenging climate for that business.

@pantsBoots
If you do not like their product, don’t buy it.
How does your post (which presents more opinion posed as fact than that of the subject of your diatribe) have anything to do with the context of this thread?

Sounds like you’ll be happy if Gawith folds, regardless of how many in the community wholeheartedly support their effort to keep getting us what we want to buy, even with the fact that a natural product changes in character over time.
Well done.

Wow little man, you seem a little salty!
Its hardly nepotism that a family company, passed down 7 generations has been passed to the next generation!
And actually I have run my own companies before so have experience and organically transitioned into MD, it was not just given.
I worked for the company as a sales rep when I was younger, I have grown up in the company, was down packing snuff as a kid in Lowther Street.
Yes the company needs to make money to pay for materials, its staff etc....otherwise it folds.
Stating facts is hardly belittling.
And I have said opinions are just that and are very subjective.
You on the other hand do not seem to understand what subjectivity means!

Not sure if I have 5 lbs but SG FVF is divine and especially after you sit on it. Had some fresh and was like wet grass. Some age and it's just incredible IMO.

I bought five pounds PS Luxury Flake, five pounds of PS Bullseye Flake, five pounds of Newminster 400 Superior Navy Flake and 1 pound (16 ounces) of Newminster 403 Superior Round Slices all at once.

It came in a giant heavy box. The funny thing was whoever packed the order figured out the five pounds PS Luxury blocks of flake easy enough.

The Newminster 403 that I only ordered 1 pound (16 oz) of was read by the picker as 16 pounds.

So I received 31 pounds in the mail. I sent back the 15 excess pounds of 403 and I had to convince Pipes and Cigars they made a mistake. They only charged me for one pound, but couldn’t figure out how they send me 16 pounds. Lol.
Ya just gotta shake your head at times about P&C. That said, I am sitting here wearing a P&C t-shirt my sister-in-law bought me a few years ago…

This hit home 100%.

There seems to be this weird phenomenon where people conflate one thing with another...

Are you a badass behind the wheel, capable of crushing the Schumacher's and Hamilton's of the world? Let's get you a job as head of engineering at Rivian!

Violin prodigy who has perfect pitch, with the ability to compose concertos while you cook? You must be destined for greatness running the finance department at Universal Music Group.

I guess G&H should hire someone who won a long smoking competition at a pipe show to take over, THAT will do the trick!

The fact that they're even on these forums shows a massive commitment, we only represent a fraction of their customers, yet here they are reading posts and keeping a pulse on things...

Now go tell Jessica and Kaz to hurry up and order more, we're getting cranky.

El ricon de la pipa #1. I didn't even get a pound. I wish I'd gotten a pound at least. Might risk it. It's such a good under the radar blend and a pound is under 40$

I remember this when it happened. I would of kept the tobacco after they didn't know they made a mistake and you had to convince them. They obviously wouldn't of missed it. But just an interesting story on human nature. You've obviously have great integrity. I have integrity too, but depends on the circumstances and bend sometimes. But I tell people about this story in everyday conversations. Amazing for you to bring it up

There is no such thing as “contextual” honor. You are either honorable or you are not. Ashdigger did the right thing. It was a no-brainer for any gentleman.

I'll never understand the people on this and other forums who seem to make a sport of poking and antagonizing and second-guessing Gawith. The best blends in my collection all have the name Gawith on them. Frankly, most of the other blends out of the ~100 I've tried taste pretty mediocre by comparison.

And going after someone personally in this manner -- someone you know absolutely NOTHING about -- is everything wrong with the internet right now. We should thank our lucky stars that these people still dedicate the time and effort to keep these incredibly niche products alive.
